Baltimore, 1828. Spinning. Turning flax to fine linen thread for her family’s weaving business keeps Betha’s hands occupied all day, but it’s the concerns spinning in her heart that never truly rest. How can she give her nephew Henry a secure, loving home when his father remains indifferent? How can she guide the boy who calls her “Ma” to know and follow the Lord for himself? And when past secrets and future changes collide, will she lose Henry altogether?

Colm Gallagher is passionate about teaching boys using innovative educational methods. But is his kind and thorough instruction enough if he is not allowed to give his students the ultimate truth of God’s Word? Confronted by his student Henry Young and the boy’s lovely but determined aunt, Colm considers if he has allowed practical considerations to outweigh his deepest-held beliefs. Even as Betha and Colm are drawn to each other, family loyalties, financial pressures, and personal uncertainties push them further apart. Will the threads of their lives unravel or become knit together into something stronger? Weaving linen is her family’s legacy. Weaving roots of truth and grace is her calling.

This was a nicely balanced, historical, Christian story. I thought the characters' circumstances were rather unique, relatable and inspiring, especially in regards to living out their faith. Also really enjoyed how the ending and story resolutions lasted a good long while, allowing the reader to savour and enjoy the happy (but realistic) endings! Overall, a very good book. Hoping for a sequel.

Great Christian book

I first selected this book due to the title, being of a weaving background myself; and the historical context of weaving communities was very interesting. However what was a real joy, was the comforting nature and messages of grace in this story. I became invested in these characters and am off to read some more books by Heather Wood! I do hope all the books in the subsequent series become available.

Weaving Roots is well researched, & carefully written as a Christian Historical Fiction novel. It’s set in pre-Industrial times. There’s real life struggles & family drama. One of the topics discussed is that of providing Christian education in schools. Slavery is also debated. It’s a slice of life in those times with Christian faith & values.

I didn't know what to expect as this author is new to me, but a free audiobook code, convinced me to listen, and I'm so glad I did! I LOVED this book and my only problem was fitting in the time to listen uninterrupted!! I loved the story, the Faith based conflicts, the romance, and ESPECIALLY the narration! She was superb!! So, thank you and I can't wait to listen to the next book!!

Actor was difficult to hear as diction was poor, intonation was inconsistent and phrasing often weak. This was a pity as the story was interesting to a point. Very disappointing.

Poor sound, difficult to hear story.
