About this listen

Sometimes secrets are better left buried....

Amy Penrose knows how it feels to grow up in a home where your parents harm you more than raise you.

Now an adult, she’s newly qualified as a child psychologist and hopes to help children who’ve gone through struggles of their own.

When a father brings a 12-year-old boy into her office, she recognizes the bruises and the way the boy withdraws into himself. And she wants to help.

But life is never that simple. With a boyfriend at home who believes her career shouldn’t be more important than getting married and having children, and with a boss who seems to want her to stay late all the time, but not for work reasons, and with other patients who need her, Amy is torn.

As she delves into the family’s past, and starts to feel unsafe in her own home, she starts to wonder if this is one child beyond her help.

Loved the book sets the stage for more with the same character.
Enough detail to allow your imagination to build your own picture. Hate it when there is too much detail and it waffles on
Enjoyed the narrator - not heard her before.
Overall a good listen. Already bought book two.

New to the Authors (both female) loved it

Ok this started as it went on! Straight into the workings of a child’s problems, the adult psychologist Amy listening & because of her past she feels she can help.
Then as she digs further she begins to be unsure and is she safe. Who’s the one hurting this boy.
This is a fab start to I hope a running series by these 2 brilliant authors.
A definite thriller and it kept me hooked the 2 days I spread it over.
Narrator was very good too. Kept story going on well & you could feel her as she read it.

Amy is a child psychologist who knows well enough what child abuse looks like on a kid because she was that kid, many moons ago. A 12 yr old boy is presented as a new client and she sees the signs, but is hampered by a boss that doesn't want her to work late in order to actually work and a boyfriend, Gary, who thinks she should be more interested in womans stuff "marriage and all the trappings!". She goes out on a limb to delve into the family and everything around them. As she doggedly carries on she finds she is sensing a vulnerability and feels unsafe in her house. Who could be causing this? What is happening? Amy has a fight to come...and she doesn't realise how hard and how dark it will be, causing her to never, ever forget.
This was a creepy read with the narrator ramping up the creep factor! Brilliant! Two of my favourite authors get together and nothing less that a tense, dark and edge of my seat read is expected! They delivered!

A fabulous book

Good solid start of series - with the psychologist in the main role, partnered with a detective. So if you like detective/crime genre, this is for you. I personally didn't find it full of suspense and I don't like a book that starts (and continues) with all the same characters - with just a few others added in as books continue (so wont be purchasing the next in series).
