Elona Elizabeth Russell
In a fascinating biography, Lizzi’s daughter, Elona Russell, begins by detailing her mother’s life. She was raised by a strong-willed father who considered her his property in a patriarchal society. As Lizzi matured, she endured beatings, a forced marriage, lies, threats, and more. Despite her struggles, Elona reveals that a determined Lizzi trusted in God to answer her prayers, even when the government denied her the right to think for herself, and shares how her mother’s determination to persevere brought her face-to-face with death and then to survival as she battled and ultimately overcame seemingly insurmountable obstacles to create a new chapter in the United States.
Was She Property? is the inspirational true story of God’s love in extraordinary circumstances as a Hungarian woman followed her heart to persevere through oppression to attain happiness.
