My name's Morgan Rook, supernatural detective, undercover agent, odd jobs man. I take out the nightmares, demons, and werewolves. Guys like us call them Nightkind. I had one final job. There's always one. This time a call to eliminate a cruel, rogue vampire, named Mr. Tudor. Simple, right? Sure. Until the bodies started piling up in a new wave of vicious occult killings leading scarily close to my own front door, sparking a series of deadly events that would make my years of fighting the Nightkind look like a cakewalk.

Summary
Just any warlock. Oh no, I'm a warlock for hire. Need magical assistance? I'm your guy. Whatever you need: spells, cures, or potions - I can provide. For a price.
My life gets a tad more difficult when one particular customer comes knocking. Enter Ashley Sheridan. She's sexy, mysterious, and in a whole lot of trouble. I should have turned her away, but I just can't resist a good mystery. So I poked my nose where it doesn't belong and landed myself in trouble with a malignant seer. I have to do as he says or people are going to die. I'm not really known for cooperation, so I'll just have to find a way to kill him, before he kills the people I care about.
But how do you beat a man who sees every move you make, before you've even decided to make it?

A little too much 4th wall breaking
At first glance this books seems like it is going to be along similar lines to the Dresden Files, but there are a number of ways that it stands out from that series and not all of them are good.
The setting for these books being a modern Britain makes a change both for the location and the avoidance of the more common clichés when using a British setting and the supporting cast are well defined and brought to life by the author and the narrator. This book has clear rules for its system of magic and for the supernatural that are distinctive enough as well.
These are all positive ways in which this book stands out from other urban fantasy, but things are not entirely positive when it comes to the main character, he is interesting enough on the whole. However, there can be a thin line between snarky and merely annoying and in the case of the main character, he ends up on the annoying side of the line rather more often than necessary. This impression of the character is probably not helped by the author's decision to go with 4th wall breaking and have him talk to the listener directly, rather than sticking with a less overt internal monologue, which wouldn't tend to take you out of the moment as much.
The narrator gives a strong performance, both in bringing the main character to life and with helping to provide distinct characters for all of the supporting cast and I would be happy to listen to another book narrated by him in the future.
Overall, I found this to be an enjoyable book and will look forward to any future ones in the same series as the positives easily outweighed the negatives, that were mostly stylistic annoyances rather than fundamental flaws.

Loved it
Absolutely brilliant, I really enjoyed this story, Eddie Lancaster is a natural born warlock that hires out his services but when Ashley Sheridan comes to him he becomes more than a little intrigued by what has caused her to seek out his services and so starts an adventure of potions, spells and death threats, just who is Killian Myers and will Eddie survive finding out ?
I loved the way this book is written, Eddie narrating his own story, his thick skinned down to earth attitude infuses this story with some humour and sarcasm that makes it not only a great read but fantastic to listen to as an audiobook.

Not your typical Warlock Story
I loved this audiobook.
YES it is rough in places but god what a story with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing.
I love that it unfolds piece by piece and something that seemed innocuous suddenly becomes important and that twists the story.
Plot twist at the end is fun too and leads beautifully into the next book.
Narrator has a wonderful style and really brings the character to life.
It was a joy to listen to and I will be listening to the other books.

If you like The Dresden Files....
I picked this book as I am desperately awaiting the next Dresden Files instalment and this was of a similar ilk. Glad to say it was a good decision. I enjoyed the story, not totally absorbing, but enough to keep me interested right through to the end - in fact I'm going to look out for the next one in the series.
The narrator was not in my opinion the best, but also not annoying enough to put me off, just a little bit of a monotonous tone in places. I've also read a couple of negative comments about the lead character talking to the listener directly but to be honest, I did not really notice this/find it off-putting.
All in all, not a bad start to the series. There is room for improvement and I'm looking forward to watching the characters develop as the series progresses.

Fun story and narrated well
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Eddie Lancaster is a natural born Warlock and you can buy his magical services if you have the money.
He is often hired to remove magical powers which normally goes easy that is until he meets Ashley Sheridan and from there things go to hell in a hand basket .
Hannibal Hills brings each character to life giving them their own individuality.
I will be getting further books in this series when I catch up with my to listen list.

Unusual but Worthwhile book
In modern Britain, life is pretty normal unless you count the supernatural and magic present.
Its where we begin our story with a Natural warlock called Eddie making a living by selling his powers to those in need for a price.
Eddie is very much accepting of his place and role he plays in life and as such he generally ambles through life until a beautiful woman with some intriguing issues comes to him.
So starts a pleasant adventure which although hardly fast paced matches Eddie very well and this plays out for a usual hero who tries to save the day if not in an wholly heroical manner.
I think this story will either be a " meh " or a " you know i quite enjoyed it" and will depend on the person.
For me i found it a nice pleasant story for a initial series and i would carry on finding out more about our Eddie.
Narration by Hans Hill is very English and measured but matches the character well i find. He seems to perform other characters quite well with a somewhat dry wit and aplomb which is great for picturing Eddie.
This story was gifted to me and i choose to leave an honest review and as such is based upon my own opinion

Everything ties together neatly at the end
Warlock for Hire by Sean Stone is the first book in a series called Arcane Inc. Eddie Lancaster is a warlock for hire and he is a self-professed and unapologetic rude and annoying guy. Unlike most with magical abilities, he sells his skills as a warlock to anyone willing to pay him. He doesn’t ask questions. However, when an attractive woman, Ashley Sheridan, comes to him with a request, he is intrigued. When she comes back, he clearly sees that she’s in trouble and he loves to solve mysteries. And so, despite her insistence that he not get involved, Eddie falls hard into the dangerous mystery and suddenly his, Ashley’s, and other peoples’ lives are at risk. He must figure out how to protect himself, Ashley and the people they love before his actions lead them to destruction.
This is generally a light and ultimately fun urban fantasy story. The characters are flat and Eddie is an immature guy, who is, as he himself professes, annoying and rude. But despite all of his failings, it is easy to root for his success even while rolling eyes at his behavior. Unfortunately, the main female character is generally a damsel in distress, which is frustrating. However, hints about the next books suggest that there will be other strong female characters as the series continues. The story is generally engaging as Eddie stumbles from one situation to the next and is balanced with action and his absurd inner monologue describing the world around him and explaining things through the fourth wall. Everything ties together neatly at the end of the story and leads into the next novel without a cliffhanger.
The narration by Hannibal Hills might well be why this book is so engaging. Without Hills' characterization of Eddie, Eddie may have easily just been too irritating and immature for me, personally. And so, I highly recommend choosing to listen to the audiobook over reading the written text, unless the reader typically enjoys characters like Eddie. The production quality was good. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a light and fast-paced urban fantasy novels.

Excellent Start to a Fun New Series
This was a lot of fun to listen to. I know everyone is going to compare this to Dresden Files, but I think at this point, any witty young problem-solving wizard series gets that comparison. I personally thought it was quite a bit different with different characters and a slightly more enjoyable plot.
With this being the first book in the series you get a good introduction into Eddie’s world and some of the characters that inhabit it. You get a good understanding of the magic the world has and some of the rules that surround the magic. Not surprisingly, this didn’t seem to be too much different from other books in the genre, but enjoyable nonetheless.
Where this book really shined was with the characters. I really liked Eddie right off the bat, sometimes really disliked him, but in general thought he was a great protagonist. Occasionally he was even his biggest antagonist. I liked how he knows that he doesn’t make the best decisions, even while making them, but doesn’t look back and will even keep digging his own grave in order to keep his pride. I think that his behavior is exactly how a 26 year old warlock would act and look forward to more of his development and antics.
I thought the writing was a lot of fun and really helps make this book stand out from others in the genre. First time I have listened to a book where the protagonist breaks the forth wall. The style and wit reminded me of how the Deadpool movies are done. I think the author had a lot of fun with this book and it really comes through with his writing.
Hannibal Hills did a great job with the narration. I think he really brought a lot of excitement to Eddie and really made the story come to life. I am quite familiar with his narration of horror stories, so this was a good change of pace and look forward to hearing him narrate the rest of the series.

Great start to a hilarious series.
This was great. The main character was funny and honest about who he was. The story was well paced and structured. I found myself checking for the second book about an hour into this one. Listened in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed it. For fans of The Tome of Bill series and The Iron Druid Chronicles.
Can't wait for book two Audio.
The Narrator was great. He brought a good vibe and enthusiasm to the characters. I especially liked the landlady's voice. The scenes where he Eddie is home and dealing with his landlady and her son reminded me of the show How Not To Live Your Life.
I requested a free review copy of this book and I am leaving a voluntary and honest review.

Will definitely remind you of The Dresden Files so not exactly original. Still it’s enjoyable and worth a read. I’ll keep up with the series. Sarcastic humor is something I always enjoy.
The narrator did a great job bringing the story to life.

Smart A__ for Hire
First off, this is definitely a Dresdenesque novel, only set in Great Britain. The main character and the story is funny, entertaining, and worth the time if you like urban fantasy.

Lots of fun!
A warlock who sells his services for a small fee. In this story he's met his match. Ashley comes to him with a huge problem. A certain someone wants something from her because he saw it in a vision. She doesn't have the ability alone to make it happen.
It's a combination of mystery and silly and kept me entertained throughout. The story is told as if he's telling you the story one on one. I wasn't so sure about that at first but it grew on me quickly and I completely enjoyed the story. It has a strong plot, moves smoothly from one chapter to the next and has enough humor it kept me in stitches.
Great story!

Not a book appealing to women
I don’t think this book was written with female readers in mind. The women portrayed was very sterile typical and over exaggerated. The narrators did a great job, but this book wasn’t my cup of tea.

Fun and Enjoyable!
The story is told by Eddie himself which is an excellent way to present it and Hannibal Hills gives Eddie the perfect voice! I actually started this series with book 3 which was a first for me, but each story is a stand alone, you dont have to know Eddie's first story to enjoy the others which quite frankly is awesome! It was so much fun to listen too that I just had to read more so I started with the 1st one and will continue to read the entire series! Many of the other reviews are simply over sharing, they are telling you the story in the review! I would prefer that you read it yourself, its much better that way and then you will see why we all like this guy haha! My favorite characters in this story are Eddie, of course and Marjory, Ashleys mom haha, she cracked me up! I highly enjoyed this and look forward to more.
