War is only the beginning. Duke never set out to be a king—only to protect his own. Leading the Twice Blessed Legion, he marches to war against the undead tyrant Chopie, the Lich King. Battles rage, and betrayals lurk in the shadows, but through sheer will and the power he has gathered, Duke emerges victorious. His reward? A throne he never sought. The price? Incalculable.

But ruling is nothing like war. As the newly crowned king, Duke finds himself ruling over a depleted nation. How do you rebuild from ruins? Duke turns to his dungeons for the resources to rebuild his kingdom and sharpen his warriors. But every delve reveals more than treasure. Beneath the stone and blood, a far greater game is being played. The Twin Entities watch from beyond, but they are not alone on the Cosmic Stage. What price will the Overmind exact to break Duke free of their control? War made him a king. Dungeons made him a legend. But who will he be when the Entities are done with him?

Almost all the observations noted in my review of the first book remain true, but for one: The fact that he is ridiculously overpowered in this one has satisfied my guiltiest of literary pleasures. I'd have given this an extra half star if I could, but given the same and persisting critiques I had for the previous instalment of this series, I couldn't bring myself to bump it up to five stars.
