About this listen

Michael Morpurgo’s classic tale, capturing the power of the human spirit.

Beautifully performed by Dan Stevens, ‘War Horse’ has taken the world by storm. First published back in 1982, the book was adapted to the stage and was performed at the National Theatre and on Broadway.

At the outbreak of World War 1, Joey, young Albert's beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France.
He's soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary odyssey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man's land. But Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a treacherous mission to the trenches to find him and bring him home.

So much better than I thought it would be. The story is fantastic, the narrator's reading is brilliant and like a book you can't put down, this is an audiobook I can't stop listening to. I think this comes under the children's category, but I loved it and am 26 years old. I think this book is ageless. Fantastic audiobook!

I enjoyed this book very much. There are sad bits and happy bits like all other classic animals stories, ie Black Beauty, Lassie, etc. Michael does a very good job narrating which helped pass a few hours of boring weeding in the garden. And, as often happens I much preferred the book to the film.

My type of story
