You are NOT who you think you are. In fact, according to best-selling author Craig Groeschel in Altar Ego, you need to take your idea of your own identity, lay it down on the altar, and sacrifice it. Give it to God. Offer it up. Why? Because you are who God says you are. And until you’ve sacrificed your broken concept of your identity, you won’t become who you are meant to be. When we place our false labels and self-deception on the altar of God’s truth, we discover who we really are as his sons and daughters.

The most important conversation you'll have. Why do so many of our conversations with one another lead to misunderstanding and hurt feelings? Brady Boyd turns to the example of Jesus Christ to show that the health of our conversations can be only as vibrant as the health of our interactions with God. As Proverbs says, "The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing" (Proverbs 12:18 niv).
Summary
"When people describe my lifestyle or family as weird, I find comfort," writes author Craig Groeschel. He then shares a Christ-centered philosophy, on everything from money to scheduling to purity, to help you break out of the normal rut and live according to the rhythms of God's grace and truth of his word.
Normal people are stressed, overwhelmed, and exhausted. Many of their relationships are, at best, strained and, in most cases, just surviving. Even though we live in one of the most prosperous places on earth, normal is still living paycheck to paycheck and never getting ahead. In our oversexed world, lust, premarital sex, guilt, and shame are far more common than purity, virginity, and a healthy married sex life. And when it comes to God, the majority believe in him, but the teachings of scripture rarely make it into their everyday lives.
Simply put, normal isn't working. Groeschel's WEIRD will help you break free from the norm to lead a radically abnormal (and endlessly more fulfilling) life.

Become weird, as normal isn't working
Good morning everybody. This was my first ever Christian based teaching book. I started the book in October of 2015. It's a total of 17 chapters in total.
Craig hits home to what God wants us to act in his image. Through his life lessons and flaws, it can be reflected on in our lives too.
The writer hits on everything that is wrong in trying to live a normal life, which isn't primarily focused on God.
I recently have started to take strides in my life. Before going back to church, actually comprehending the bible and acting out the lessons from Jesus and Craig, I didn't realize that I was a luke warm Christian to say the least.
The bible, which is God's word, thoughts, and actions is where you will start to change from a luke warm to a full time Christian.
I really do recommend this audio book, as Craig does a great job in what typically holds us back from a great relationship with Jesus and how to stop being normal and become weird.
It was helpful to me, to take notes and strive to change things in my life. I hope with God's word in the bible and tho book that like me, it will start to change you from within and allow you to become who God intended you to be in his image not the world.
Brian,

What they won't tell you
Ok, here's the skinny on this book. I just finished it today and what they won't tell you is that this book is basically about how applying biblical principals to your life can totally revolutionize you. There are a lot of biblical references here and for that matter a hefty portion of it is evangelical, but done classy. In such a way that if you're a Christian or on the border there it's not offensive at all, but if you're a solid atheist it IS enough to cause you to shelf the book. That said, the book for me was an absolute amazing read. Practical advice for applying biblical principals and a good reference tool that I'll be keeping on my shelf for a while.

Conform to the fundamentalist ideal=weird?
I so wanted to love this entire book. Really, so much of it was insightful and life impacting. I even started recommending it to my church coworkers and family. That was before I got to part 4. This long, drawn out section, about sex left me with little respect for this author.
He quotes old testament homosexuality is a sin, and even put in a quote by Bill Cosby. His solution for a bad marriage? Pray.
God wants you to stay married, no matter what, right? Wow.
So what I thought would be a modern guide to postmodern Christianity turned put to be fundamental dogma, picking and choose from the living Christ, out of touch with biology, and a true bait and switch.
Another reviewer said it best with
Format: Paperback
"I bought this book because I'm a Christian artist & a bit of an eccentric, hoping for a book that affirms & challenges the way God creates his children to be unusual, even within the body of Christ. Grab that unique identity!
Instead, this book assumes the reader is incredibly mainstream & conformist, challenging them to BECOME weird because following Christ is countercultural."

Written for me
this book spoke straight to my heart. I listened to the whole book in one sitting. I get side eye from strangers and friends and family alike often because of the size of our family (we have 7 children) and homeschooling and soon to move across the country to homestead. But it was all God lead. He lead us to live a weird life. This book really helped to remind me to keep pushing forward. His opinions are the only ones that count.

I don't know how Pastor Groeshel does it, but he packs so much into his teachings. Very worthwhile as reminders believers need. So much more can be said , but I'll just say, there's a lot of info here that bears reading and as usual for Pastor Craig, his books are down to earth, readable, applicable.

Much needed among the intellects and self-God’s of today’s me me me selfie-taking culture!
it’s truly unique to experience a Christian book peppered with humor all of us can relate to and yet filled with undeniable truths of our “lukewarm” post-Christian culture. Living amidst the scholars, affluence and self-aggrandized atheists in the northeast, it is humbling and refreshing to discover a book title, “Weird” by Craig Groeschel, which needn’t scare off the evangelically-phobic intellects.
I grew up as a “lukewarm” Catholic in NY and have come to realize the gross spiritual disadvantage of being rich (making in excess of $50K-comparatively to international incomes of half the world’s population). In essence, God has become virtually irrelevant yielding to a pluralistic, pantheistic and atheistic culture of millions of self-gods.
“Weird” challenges us to be different- not for the sake of being different, but for something bigger. Weird challenges us to rethink our “normal” stressful, schedule-filled lives and ask ourselves, “how did it become ‘weird’ to believe and follow God?” And to look at our “normal” and ask, “Is this really all there is?”
