Summary

Notes from an anti-child-prostitution volunteer in Thailand

If you have ever considered volunteer work abroad, it would be good to learn about it from someone who has actually done it.

In this story, a volunteer describes his first impressions of Thailand, the problems the country faces when it comes to ethnic minorities and child prostitution, the organization he worked for, and the happy and sad times he experienced in his six-month stay while diligently studying the Thai language and contributing to the community.

This short book will give you new insights. It will bypass the central tourists' route and take you to the unseen backroads of a country torn between financial disparity and sexual culture.

Wow.

What a journey; what an experience! I enjoyed listening to it and seeing myself being there in Thailand, in a little village in the north.

Interesting

I was shocked by the facts about child prostitution, and I felt the author's compassion for the kids. I was also moved by his determination to help, his devotion to the organization, and the subtle jokes in this true story. Wonderful book.

Kids matter

I knew about the kids prostitution problem in Thailand. Now it just became clear where they come from, what can be done about, etc.

This volunteer was driven

He went to Thailand, saved his own way, learned the language enough to get by, etc. He truly committed himself to helping out those kids and that's something I appreciate. A great example to all.

Volunteer

Would be nice to go on a volunteer trip like that. I can image it was fun and tragic at the same time when you're confronted with the truth.

Fun

Good to listen to, but also a little tragic to hear that these things are going on in the world. Good job for volunteering, dude.

Thailand is beautiful

This beautiful country hides a lot of dirty secrets behind the smiles. I am happy that people like this guy volunteered to help solve the problems.

Already knew some

I already knew some things about the child trafficking in southern Thailand, but this book shed some extra light on that, coming from someone who went there.

Beautiful book

This brief book beautifully illustrates what it is like to do volunteer work in Northern Thailand, where potential victims of child prostitution come from, how they live, and what's being done to stop it.

I'd like to make a trip like that

Good job for learning some Thai. That must have taken a while. It's not easy. Lovely story.
