About this listen

Years have passed since Earth encountered its first known interstellar object: Oumuamua. Now an even larger one has been discovered, following the exact same trajectory as its predecessor. Scientists around the world theorize that this can no longer be passed off as mere coincidence - the new contact must be an artificial construct of some kind.

With an ambitious plan to build a spacecraft and attempt a manned landing, a crew is formed. Disgraced astronaut Cassie Voges hopes to get selected for one last chance at redemption. Maverick billionaire Toby Merckx wants to beat his rivals to the extraordinary secrets he believes the object may unlock. And its controversial discoverer, Charles Hudson, seeks to escape his past and be remembered for something better.

What they find will change humanity forever.

Good dialogue. A relief to find a writer who can create a great story without resorting to abusive terminology.

Excellent story line.

I persevered despite my initial annoyance at the lazy use of two billionaire space cowboys who were not even slightly disguised. The story is okay, but the writing is not very sophisticated.

Good idea, but badly executed

Good narration, but this is not a good book. The concept could have been a very interesting listen, but I slogged through hamfisted descriptions and archetypical flat characters to find out what the interstellar visitor was. Once that was revealed I no longer felt any inclination to continue, even if only 2 hours remained.

Interesting concept, badly written

This story could have been brilliant but barely passed the ok status.

The narrator gave it his best effort but ultimately fell short. In my opinion this is a great example of how a good narrator can make an ok story into an excellent book and how an ok narrator with an ok story is a car crash situation.

I would tentatively recommend this book if you’re fascinated by possibilities of alien life and how contact could happen. But if you’re after something more you won’t find it here I’m afraid.

Wow - this could have been amazing

If you enjoy a mystery with your sci-fi as well as it being easily relatable due to the time. Then you won't be disappointed with the Visitor. The storyline is very good allowing the listener to quickly become immersed in a comparable world to our own. Characters are easy to follow, and the narration is performed without fault. The storyline, however, is what makes this particular story one you want to listen to until the very end. Why this hasn't already been snapped up by some movie mogul is beyond me!

An Incredible Journey
