Story
When Zoe was taken into care at the age of 13, she thought she was finally going to escape from the cruel abuse she had suffered throughout her childhood. Then social services placed her in a residential unit known to be 'a target for prostitution', and suddenly Zoe's life was worse than it had ever been before. Abused and ostracized by her mother, humiliated by her father's sexual innuendos, physically assaulted and bullied by her eldest brother, even as a young child Zoe thought she deserved the desperately unhappy life she was living.

Story
Writing this memoir has to be one of the hardest things I have ever achieved. Out of respect for the dead, this story has been told exactly how it happened. I was born in 1985 in Lancashire, England, to two alcoholic parents. Having selfish parents left me exposed to abuse, poverty, and crime. My loving grandparents helped me the best they could at the weekends, but life was barely survivable.

Story
From the outside, there was no reason to suspect the family life of young schoolchild Keri was anything but unremarkable. Two loving parents, a backdrop of 1960s Britain; life had provided for her, at least with the riches of modesty. Keri herself however, would often confound teachers with her erratic behaviour, which was at best sullen and withdrawn; at worst violently disruptive. When challenged, she would only exacerbate her growing reputation as a fantasist; weaving terrible tales about the "abuse" she was suffering at the hands of her very creators.

In this much-publicised third volume, Kat recounts her early-mid teen years; no longer a small child, but a girl on the cusp of adolescence. Still traumatized by her early experiences, but not entirely without that sense of vague hope that is the inalienable property of youth. Now at Duncroft Approved School for “emotionally disturbed girls”, her life had come to resemble that of a prisoner; a good day was a bad one and a bad day was horrific.

Why Just Why
- By Homa Maria Ebrahim on 09-12-19
Summary
The shocking first true account from one of the young girls who lived through and survived the Rotherham sex abuse scandal.
In the summer of 2014, the Rotherham sex abuse scandal sent shockwaves through the nation. A report revealed that since the 1990s, up to 1,400 young girls in the town had been regularly abused by sex gangs, predominantly comprised of Pakistani men. As the media descended on the small Yorkshire town, Sarah Wilson watched with horror and relief as her voice was finally heard after years of abuse.
Sarah was just 11 years old when she was befriended by a group of older men. Bullied at school, naive and vulnerable, the gifts and attention they lavished on her were what she craved; she just wanted to belong. But soon she was hooked on alcohol and drugs, and then they owned her.
She was just 12 years old when she was bundled into a car by a man in his 30s and forced to have sex with him. Soon the gang were driving her to places where she was raped by scores of men. Falling through the system, from social services to school, no one was able to help her. She escaped when she became too old for the men at nearly 16.
Finally a victim of the Rotherham scandal tells her story in the hope that other young girls will not fall prey to the same evil that she endured.

Powerful and shocking
An extraordinary and compelling book, but tough and painful to listen to.
The details of what the author endured during her youth in Rotherham is presented with heart breaking honesty and candour. It's quite amazing she has had the strength to write this book, but vital that she did.

The exploitation and rape of vulnerable girls
The people that Sarah Wilson thought were her friends actually had not the slightest regard for her or for all their other victims. This is the story of how she was tricked, and the terrible consequences. It's an important book because this is happening on a huge scale in many cities and many of the people who ought to care are actually denying it.

Nobody should have to ever endure something as so discusting as this. What an amazing & inspiring young lady to have lost so much & the pain she & others endured but in other ways to have gained so much more.Just a totally amazing person!

Shocking
As a resident of Rotherham myself I was shocked when the scale of the abuse was released in the press. I lived in the town centre for a while and you did used to see odd goings on. Some of the girls my age at the time seemed more interested in the older guys. They were brainwashed into thinking this was normal and enjoyable by their abusers. Even me and my friends as young lads were brainwashed into thinking that older gents from Pakistani or white race were preferred by the girls and that this was just normal wants and needs......Sarah tells the story of the most horrific experiences in a way that really tugs at your emotions. She is so brave and a credit to herself and her family. Showing the strength and fight she has after all that and willing to live a wholesome life turning negatives into positives is admirable

Horror Story and shocking to think this happened in modern day Britain.
This was not a story I had heard about in Australia although I had heard the case of the first white honour killing so doubly shocking that such horror was experienced by this one family.
The story was personal, sensitive and without prejudice that in itself highlights the remarkable nature and strength of this survivor and her mum and sister.
The narrator did a fantastic job of telling this true event through the eyes of the author who had to experience this awful abuse at such a young age.

Blood, sweat and tears!
First and foremost, Thank you so much for giving your whole being into this true written book. I could only imagine you putting your blood, sweat and tears into this heart wrenching, reality. Many children face on a daily basis and unfortunately many are too scared to speak up, and or are killed, once entered into sex trafficking. This book is an eye opener on the past, present and unfortunately future of this societee that we face, that we encounter. You are a true voice for those that can't speak.
The narrator was lovely, beautifully spoken. I could feel for raw emotions through her tone and expressions. I couldn't put the book down I read it from beginning to end in the 1st sitting.

A troubling story from a brave voice- Spoiler
It is appalling what people will do to observe political correctness. Vulnerable children were left to fend off pedophiles because people in power didn't want to chance offending someone. The weakest, most deserving of protection should never be sacrificed for fear of damage to one's own career... Even when shown proof of the atrocities being done to the children at the hands of the British Pakistanis, the people in position to do something about it STILL tucked their heads and denied all. Awful, just awful.
Thankfully there are people listening now, people that care and that are striving to bring it to an end. Unfortunately, although awareness has grown, the pedophiles are getting more and more creative and harder to catch.
As if the child abuse wasn't horrible enough, the family also suffered an "honor killing". This is a most RIDICULOUS custom usually used by middle eastern Islamic males to kill a female family member they feel have disgraced them. For instance, this CRIME is used by fathers, brothers, uncles, etc., for such embarrassing things as when a female family member is raped That's right, they don't kill the perpetrator, they kill the VICTIM! Disgusting that this horrific act STILL GOES ON today!!!
God bless the writer and her family for remaining strong at heart, they have clearly suffered so much. God Bless her for not turning her hurt into hatred of all British Pakistani men, it would have been so very easy for her to do.

Fantastic book. Narrator was born to read this book.
Wow. Where do I start? By the time I got to chapter 5, I was certain the story wasn’t true. I googled, and was stunned to find this was really a true story. I read the newspaper accounts. The book was very well written. The narrator, Chloe, was born to narrate this book. I thought Sarah was the narrator, but the narration was so perfect, I checked it out. It is like Sarah and Chloe merged into one person and brought a true first person narrative together.
This is the most interesting, can’t turn it off Audible, I have listened too.
Congratulations to everyone involved in putting this together.

Reality can be darker than fiction & more painful
Reality can be darker than fiction and more painful with lasting ties. People often hide themselves from the horrors around them because it’s too difficult to deal with. This is a frank well thought out retelling of the exploitation of a young underage girl by those who should have known better. All while ignored by those in authority who should have been protectors or even taken steps to stop these horrific crimes. In brutal yet cleaned up honesty, Sarah, reveals the years she was abused by many multiples of pedophiles. The challenges that her family as well as herself faced while she was being trafficked throughout the country and the secondary abuse by the very system that was supposed stop it and protect her. This is an emotionally difficult story to read because of the subject, yet it needs to be told so people become aware that this does happen. Awareness, knowledge and just as importantly action and accountability may help to save/rescue other children or those at risk from such a life.
