Story
I can remember a time when I baked for fun. I loved dreaming up new recipes, trying different combinations of flavors. Sharing my creations with friends and family. Now? I have nightmares where the TV cameras are on me and I’m baking naked. Or I open my oven and my cake pans are empty. You don’t need to be Freud to figure out I’m freaking out. This week on The Great British Baking Contest could be my last. I am one bad bake away from being waved good-bye.

Then the boss tells her that she has to complete her husband’s last job before that freedom is truly hers. No big deal, she figures. Until things go south in ways she never imagined. Suddenly she’s thrust into a whole new world that makes the mob look like kindergarten. Vampires and werewolves are real? How is that freaking possible?

Shadowvale isn’t typical small-town America. The sun never shines, the gates decide who enters, magic abounds, and every resident bears some kind of curse. No one knows this as well as raven shifter Deacon Evermore, who, like everyone in his family, has a curse. While his position as Shadowvale’s peacekeeper lets him use that curse for good, he’d rather live anywhere else. He stays for his family but doubts he can last much longer.

When I arrived at my uncle's house, I expected my relatives to be like me - outcast sorcerers who don't practice magic. I was right about the sorcery, but wrong about everything else. Rule two: Don't listen to the demon. My uncle chose a far deadlier power. He calls creatures of darkness into our world, binds them into service contracts, and sells them to the highest bidder. And I'm supposed to act like I don't know how illegal and dangerous it is. Rule three: Don't talk to the demon. All I had to do was keep my nose out of it.

Taming Demons for Beginner's
- By Mrs. C. Hunt on 24-03-20
Summary
From Book 1:
I was a divorced, middle-aged witch banished to Ireland.
My life could be summed up in a limerick....
There once was a misguided witch
Who tried a man’s fate to switch
Her punishment set
To Ireland she must get
But better than feathers and pitch!
With a name like Quinn Calahan, I sounded as Irish as a leprechaun dancing a jig on a four leafed clover, but the truth was, I’d never been closer to the emerald isle than drinking green beer at the St Patrick’s day street party in Boston until I messed up so badly I had to leave the US. I was offered a job in a tiny village in Ireland that no one’s ever heard of. And I think that was the point in sending me there. How much trouble could a divorced, middle-aged witch get into in a village that boasted very few residents, one crumbling castle that attracted no tourists, and a post office that was only open Mondays and Thursdays?
You’d be surprised.
You will fall in love with this series about second chances, magical mayhem, and book club unlike any other. From the author of the best-selling Vampire Knitting Club series.

Ever wondered what happened to Oscar Wilde?
Nice easy going 'cosy' mystery which doesn't take too much thinking about. Perfect accompaniment to a leisurely stroll, an hours knitting or zipping through the housework. It was nice fo have a crossover from the vampire knitting club series, a bit like an old friend dropping in. They didn't add much to the story but it was a pleasant aside. There were enough suspects to make it interesting but not so many that you lost track of the action when you had to leave the story for a while. I particularly liked the idea of Oscar Wilde may have joined the ranks of the undead and joined a vampire book club! My only criticism is the English and Irish accents the reader presented. I found they grated a little and were distracting. Not distracting enough to stop me listening to more in the series. On the whole a pleasant change to listening to the news or podcasts whilst pottering around. Nice one!

Slow start, but good ending...
I’m a huge fan of Nancy’s Vampire Knitting Club books so of course this one also appealed to me! It was a tad slow to start but once the action started it was very cleverly done! And having a cameo from some of my favorite knitting vamps helped too! Definitely a fun little mystery and can’t wait to see what the next one in the series holds for our little bookworm witch and her new Irish friends.

Vampires, Witches & A Dead Body!
An excellent new series that will delight and entertain you! Who hasn't dreamed of living in a small village in the Irish countryside in an adorably quaint cottage and running a fabulous bookstore? I know I have! Toss in a group of voracious reading vampires who hold a midnight book club and you are set! Of course it would help if the first day you arrive to check out the bookstore you don't find a dead body behind the checkout desk! At least you are too new in town to be the murder suspect, but being new in town means that everyone else is suspected! Toss in visitors from the Vampire Knitting series and you not only have the perfect story, but a lovely cross over as well! If you haven't read the Vampire Knitting series that will not interfere with your enjoyment, but I do have to say that you are missing out on hours of entertainment! This author weaves wonderful characters and brings them to life in a manner that makes you not only enjoy the books, but feel as if you have made new friends. The plot is wonderfully woven to give you nice twists and turns to keep you guessing! The narrator of this book is absolutely divine and really breathes extra life into the characters and story! She is quickly becoming a favorite of mine! I absolutely can't wait for the next book in this series!

What a way to start a series!
I immediately fell in live with The Vampire Book Club and with the narration. Nancy Warren has a way with visuals that make you feel like you are walking beside the characters the entire way. I loved how many characters there are and all of their colorful backgrounds. (narrator did an excellent job) This one also kept me on my toes which in return had the ending pleasently surprising me. I can not wait to move on to the second one.

Incredible Cozy Mystery!
The Vampire Book Club by Nancy Warren (The Vampire Book Club, Book 1) Narrated by: Hollis McCarthy Release date: July 14, 2020 The Vampire Book Club is the first book in the new paranormal cozy mystery series by Nancy Warren. There are currently two other books in the series, so this is totally bingeable! This book introduces Quinn Calahan, a divorced, middle-aged witch who was banished to Ireland after messing up big time in the States. I really like Quinn. She has a good heart, a strong will and is more mature & experienced in life. This book is filled with all the supernatural goodness that I look for in a cozy mystery: a quant Irish village, witches, a book shop, a book club, a hot vampire, and a mystery! The narration by Hollis McCarthy is absolute perfection! She really knows how to bring a story to life! I definitely recommend this book! I received a review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Worth Listening To
Listening to the narrator tell this story was calming and soothing. After Quinn did something horrible in the witch community she relocates to Ireland. She meets Lachlan, the handsome next door neighbor. While trying to get use to living in a small village in a different country Quinn finds a dead body in the bookshop she manages. She finds herself becoming a sleuth and finding out the village secrets, she never wanted to know. For me it was easy to start loving the characters and the village. I had hoped that Quinn and Lochlan would have developed a romance, may in a later book. I can't wait to hear the rest of the series. I think Nancy Warren is a phenomenal writer, a weaver of a superb story. I highly recommend this audio.
