Summary

Now a completed series!

An outbreak of "The Fever" has taken hold of Portland, Oregon, bringing the population to its knees. "The Fever" spreads and kills quickly, but the dead aren't staying dead.

When her neighbor, Jordan, saves her from an infected, Alissa joins him in his plan to escape the city, the zombies and the threat of a quarantine that will lock the living in with the undead.

What she doesn't tell him is that she has an illness of her own, one that plays tricks with her mind and makes her a dangerous companion. But Jordan has a secret as well, one that compels him to keep Alissa, a veritable stranger, safe at all costs.

As they fight for their lives and race for their freedom, they'll discover that what they truly need in order to survive is to stay together until the end.

Narration was the ABSOLUTE WORST!!!

I liked the story. I liked the characters. I even liked the writing. I just started listening to Book 2 which is - thanks be to the heavens above - being narrated by a man. But the narration on Book 1 is the PITS, total CRAP! Completely deadpan delivery for over 90% of the material. Just a horrible experience listening to this book. Audible should offer a refund for the cost of the audible portion of this book - it was truly that bad, no exaggeration. If I see the name Ayesha Kleinjan listed as a narrator on another selection sometime in the future, I will know NOT to purchase.

May have been better with a different narrator

I purchased this book based on all the great reviews. However, I found it a real chore to get through the book. Ayesha Kleinjan's performance was AWFUL! There were no voice inflections at all which made it difficult to know which character was speaking. She basically just read the book out loud. Also, she would stop in the middle of a sentence making it seem as if the sentence was completed but then pick up again. I found that very annoying. Did the publisher, author or anyone take the time to listen to this book before it was released? Did anyone actually listen to Ms. Kleinjan before hiring her to narrate? Someone really dropped the ball on hiring her as the narrator.

Excellent Zombie apocalypse story

I loved the story's characters, Alyssa and Jordan, and the dynamic they had throughout the story. I started listening during my daily work commute, but then found myself sneaking in chapters whenever I could during the day. The narrator was engaging and kept me hooked into the story. The way she described some of the scenes and the close calls with the zombies was vivid. I could feel the danger the characters were in.
If you love zombie apocalypse stories you'll love this book. The relationship that evolves between Alyssa and Jordan add to the story and make it more than just an apocalypse book.

Awful Narration

The narration is horrible. Very monotone with hardly any influxtion, emotion or differentiation between characters. I can’t say if the story is good because the narration ruined it for me.

Same zombie apocalypse story bit well read

If you like zombie apocalypse you’ll get the same out of this one as all others, well read and realistic...for the most part. Nothing too ridiculous and very down to earth as far as available resources. Recommended

Awesome zombie apocalypse story!

I’m a big fan of Trace Ward and so excited about finding her on Audible. Zombie apocalypse with romance thrown in. Great narration. My all day drive was made bearable. Thanks.

Horrible narrator

I really love this series. I have read the actual books and thought to give it a try on audible. The story is amazing, I really love Alissa and Jordan's dynamic and the story has very creepy moments.

The narrator though.. she sounds like a high-school student being forced to read a passage from a book in English class. She shows the emotional spectrum of a rock and her voice is completely monotone. I didn't get past 2 pages before returning this. Which is sad because as I said, the series is great.

The narrator... not so much.

NO SPOILERS—great story, horrible narration

Typical zombie apocalypse storyline, but told with a fresh voice & really good character development, ‘real’ characters with real-life issues. Had some common grammatical errors people make in everyday conversation. Terrible narration—flat/stilted, which I can deal with, but weird pauses in the middle of sentences, mispronounced common words, and even made substitutions....emphatically vs empathy ...uh what??? Didn’t anybody review this before publishing? I actually checked to make sure the 2nd book had a different narrator before deciding if I would finish the story...didn’t want to be left wanting more but stuck with the same narrator!

Narrator Sucks

The story does have potential, but the narration wasn't great. there was not enough change of voice between the characters which gets confusing. I gave up after chapter 5.

Great addition to this Genre

I like this genre and this story caught my interest right away and I found it interesting and will follow up with the rest of the series.

I read a negative review of the narrator, but personally I really liked her clear cadence because I felt as if she were simply reading the story to me in an easy to follow manner so I was able to imagine the characters myself.
