Summary

Winner of Best of Los Angeles Award "Best Holocaust Book - 2021"

“A must-read that hopefully will be adapted for the screen. Greene lets Wilzig’s effervescent spirit shine through, and his story will appear to a wide variety of readers.” (Library Journal)

Unstoppable is the ultimate immigrant story and an epic David-and-Goliath adventure. While American teens were socializing in ice cream parlors, Siggi was suffering beatings by Nazi hoodlums for being a Jew and was soon deported along with his family to the darkest place the world has ever known: Auschwitz. Siggi used his wits to stay alive, pretending to have trade skills the Nazis could exploit to run the camp. After two death marches and near starvation, he was liberated from camp Mauthausen and went to work for the US Army hunting Nazis, a service that earned him a visa to America. On arrival, he made three vows: to never go hungry again, to support the Jewish people, and to speak out against injustice. He earned his first dollar shoveling snow after a fierce blizzard. His next job was laboring in toxic sweatshops. From these humble beginnings, he became president, chairman, and CEO of a New York Stock Exchange-listed oil company and grew a full-service commercial bank to more than four billion dollars in assets.

Siggi’s ascent from the darkest of yesterdays to the brightest of tomorrows holds sway over the imagination in this riveting narrative of grit, cunning, luck, and the determination to live life to the fullest.

Tremendous Book for the World, Touching, NONE of us should ever forget

As an respectful, hard-working Irish Catholic, from Journal Square, in Jersey City who never got involved w/ race & individuals backgrounds , I remember TTNJ & Christmas Clubs, and this GREAT mans bank. THX.

My Israeli friends, have told me, we have a lot in common..”NO ONE WANTED US”. (Jews & the Irish). I love these people - tremendous work-ethic, love of family & friends. Incredible supporters of my carrer in the Garment business. I also respect my German friends, and have visited in Southern Germany, and can’t imagine some of their historical regrets, of their grandparents, and parents.

For now. I love and appreciate both sids as Siggi did.. with one some thoughts..

IT HAPPENED.
IT was Wrong.
IT did not / Will Not Succeed.
LIFE is better for ALL because it’s ULTIMATE FAILURE & a Great Man like this!!
UNSTOPPABLE (now an x-Regan supporter)
That SMUCK!!!

Unputdownable

An amazing story very well written.
I found myself almost unable to breathe in parts.
As a Christian, I pray to the same Almighty as dear Siggi, that the world will Never forget the time Evil was in power. Our children must be taught these truths.

Unusual Biography

The first one fourth of this book, which dealt with his life up to and during WWII, was 5 stars. However, I had to stop listening in the middle of the book. The story, after he arrived in America, became too dark and upsetting for me. I’ve never had this reaction to a biography. I purchased this selection after seeing an advertisement in The New Yorker magazine.

Excellently provided biography of Ziggi Wilzig who made sure that the holocaust is remembered.
