Summary

For his whole life, Thordric has been told that his magic is dangerous, and that he must never use it.

All over Dinia, half-wizards are treated the same, their magic labelled as dangerous and uncontrollable. But when High Wizard Kalljard dies under mysterious circumstances, it falls to young Thordric to solve the case.

The only trouble? The deed was done by magic, and though Thordric is a half-wizard, he has never fully used his powers. To prove himself right and find the person responsible, Thordric has to learn how to control his own powers.

But can he learn fast enough, and find the perpetrator in time?

Wow!

Phenomenal story and narration that brings it to life!

This one was one of the best stories that I have enjoyed in a while! Lovable characters that you can empathize with and a story that grabs you and doesn't let go. I have to have more from this author.

You wont regret picking this one up - well worth a credit.

I’m hooked

This was a great start to a series. I absolutely loved it, so much so that I listened to it straight through in one sitting haha! It’s a feel good wizarding story that left me wanting more.

Thorodric discovers new talents both magical and regular that he possesses while undertaking his new job. Turns out he is quite the sleuth, and his magical powers are not to be regarded lightly either. Follow along as he tries to solve a murder and give half wizards a new light on their kind.

The narrator did a nice job, they make or break an audio book for me. I’ll be looking for book 2 no question!

I received a free copy of the audio book at my request in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Great Pacing!

I received this audiobook free at my request, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Unofficial Detective, Book 1 is a fantasy/mystery story that is pretty captivating. I feel like this is something that my middle school boys would really love listening to/reading. The pacing of the story is great, and it feels like it just speeds by as you get drawn in by the story. I found the narration by Morgan Keller to be quite entertaining. Overall, 5 stars! Looking forward to book 2.

A Quick and Interesting Read

Overall, the story and narration were well done, but that being said, the book is tailored to a younger audience. I personally still found the book to be a fun read. There was a point in the story that the author did not go very in-depth into a, what seemed to be fairly important, detail. It wasn't a plot breaker by any means, but as a reader, it drove me a little nuts not knowing more details. The story line was still fun and quick paced if you move past that minor bump in the road.

In summary, if you are looking for a light, quick, humorous read, this could be a good option for you.

Nice Surprise!

For me it was a little slow at first, which is not unusual for a new start. But hang in there, by the time it was over I was looking for the next in the series.
Great storytelling by the narrator. The characters were interesting and kept you captivated to the end.

Unofficial Detective

I liked it but it is more for preteens. The pace was OK and it was easy to follow.
I would recommend it to all and I will look up the next book in the series.

Performance

I thought this story captivating and easy to follow. I would recommend this book to the preteen age group. It was slightly juvenile for my taste, but sounds like something I would have really enjoyed at that age. The performance was done really well. It was animated enough to keep the characters separate, but not over animated to the point where there was no room for imagination. I also liked the pace that it was read. Not too fast to follow, but fast enough to keep attention.
Overall pretty good book for younger teenagers.

Great story and telling

This book is a very interesting and not a boring book, Its easy to understand. The audible version's narrator has very good expressions and you can tell the voices apart easily. Not once in the audible version did I have to stop and wonder, who is this character? I would definitely recommend this book to others, it's really fun. It would be a good read if you're looking for something fun to read.
