Story
When Ethan Bishop returns to the Hudson Valley, his body and spirit are a little worse for wear. As a former Special Forces paratrooper, he saw his fair share of conflict, and he came home with wounds, inside and out. At his sisters’ B & B and farm, he can keep all his pain at a safe distance. But quiet time isn’t easy when a fiery woman explodes into his life...
Summary
Kristen Collins is cursed. It's the only explanation for this recent run of catastrophes. She's lost her brand-new car and a winning lottery ticket, and her ex-boyfriend just drove off with all her possessions. She's even lost the empty office that's been her lunchtime sanctuary. Plus, the new hire who's taken it over is precisely the kind of impending heartache she knows to avoid, from his intense gaze to that irresistible crooked smile.
Developer Aiden Scott plans to stay at the Denver architecture firm just long enough to prime it for takeover. A job like his can't get personal. Yet from the moment he collides with Kristen, he's smitten. He wants to save the stunning interior designer from every crazy scenario she winds up in. But who's going to save him when his business agenda shatters Kristen's trust?
Turns out, love's a lot like luck. You don't know just how good you have it until you stand to lose it all.

No Luck Needed Here
Where does Unlucky in Love rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It lists pretty high in the sweet and full of depth category. I began rooting for Kristen from her first moment of heartbreak which started way too young. This book scored a lot of bittersweet points..
What did you like best about this story?
I liked Aiden's reaction to Kristen the first time he saw her. I could actually see his struggle and I loved every moment. I rewound it a few times.
Have you listened to any of Dara Rosenberg’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have listened to Dara Rosenberg before. Her voice is very distinctive because it is slightly raspy and full of expression. Her delivery of wit and sarcasm is outstanding. Dara is one of my top five favorite narrators. Her performance was stellar. She only gets better with each new one I hear.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
As much as I hate conflict I find that those are the moments when I am moved the most because I really just want the characters to be happy. I understood Kristen's trust issues due to her past relationships so I was surprised with Aiden's intuitiveness that he wouldn't take special care not to give her any reason to doubt his affection. Since his emotions were more transparent in this story it hurt more to see what pain his lack of full disclosure caused.

Childish and annoying lead female character
While the performance was excellent, I got annoyed with the lead female character of the story due to her childish and immature behavior.

Engaging characters and a steamy read
Kristen Collings believes she is cursed. She has been unlucky in the love department since 2nd grade. When she meets Aiden she's very cautious. Aiden Scott is immediately interested in Kristen the minute they meet. However, he was asked to take over the company where Kristen works and promised the partners he wouldn't tell anyone until he makes a decision.
I liked both characters. Kristen did seem to be accident prone and a little flighty but likable. She can be a little ditzy when it comes to men but she very good at her job and extremely smart. She has a best friend named Amy. They have been friends since grade school and they tell each other everything. Aiden is thoughtful, loyal, respectful, and basically good guy who also happens to be hot.
This is a light romance but I felt like the author focused more on the sex scenes than character development and romance. It was also very predictable at times. Although it is a simple love story, you do believe that both characters are in love with each other.

Pretty bad book and horrible narration..
For someone who was supposed to be smart Kristen was such a ding-dong. She was soooo caught up on blonde men with blue eyes it was just stupid. And then to tell Aiden “you’re not my type” because he had brown hair and eyes was even more stupid.
Her friend Amy was the best person in the book. I didn’t even have any respect for Aiden because he liked and chased after that goof-ball Kristen. How any author could write a character like that and expect readers to fall in love with her is beyond me. I won’t give up on Ms. Sanders but I’ll lay-off her for a while, until I try to forget this book.
There was a very little sexual attraction then explicit sex, nothing really lead up to it. There was a little swearing but nothing serious.
I got this book and audible, both free, through KU but don’t waste your time on the audible.
As to the narrator: You have GOT to be kidding me. Every man who spoke in this book sounded just like a girl! WTH? How could anyone give Dara Rosenberg anything other than 1 star? How can a man sounding like a girl warrant a 4 or 5 star review? When Kristen and Aiden had sex it was like two women when they spoke. She didn’t even try to lower her voice to sound manly. In the sample only a cop talked and I really didn’t care if he didn’t sound manly as long as the hero did. Well, NO! He didn’t and I quit listening soon thereafter. I guess she thinks that if she reads with a little emotion that that’s good enough. Since April 16th I’ve listened to 6 of Ms. Sanders books and this is the worst one, mostly because of the narrator but also it was the terrible main character, Kristen.

somewhat cheesy romance
Typical romance of boy meets girl and they fall in love right away....only trouble is she has terrible luck. Good thing he believes that you make your own luck and they live happily ever after. The writing needs some improvement too. .loads of cheesy lines like...you are as funny as a comedian, as smart as a surgeon...lol Very original. All joking aside it's nice to have a somewhat easy going romance sometimes without any heavy violence or death=)

Almost perfect!
Loved almost every second of this book! I'm not sure if it was performance or storyline but by the end I wasn't adequately convinced that the female protagonist was truly in love with the male protagonist. I think the author want to make her declaration of love to be simple but maybe pronounced fervently with passion. But the performer either didn't know to do it that way or chose not to which ruined the end for me. :(
