Summary

Welcome to Hyde Station, a mining platform floating in the backwaters of SOL’s trade route, where the industry of extracting precious metals from asteroids is big business.

Down on his luck and desperate to make quota, Jacoby happens upon a "cherry rock". The kind that wouldn’t just meet his quota but put him into a sizable financial bonus. But there’s a problem. A scan shows a sizable hollow cavity inside, and company procedures are clear: Voids must be drilled and tested for potentially explosive gases. That would mean handing it over to a specialty drilling team and thus kissing his payday goodbye. Refusing to hand his financial future away, Jacoby ignores his terminal’s warning and stakes his claim. Except his saw cuts into more than just rock.

Something was inside...something alive. Jacoby quickly learns that some rocks are hiding more than just precious minerals and trace metals. And when some things are set loose, there is no putting them back.

Mankind will never be the same.

Unleashed

This book is about an alien outbreak with elements of horror, erotica, and with a 'Venom' style consciousness. The horror is quite tame, not scary but more gruesome. Films like 'The Thing', 'Alien' and 'Venom' come to mind when reading this book. Although I found one of the fight scenes went on for far too long, it is well written with excellent narration by C.J. Grey. Definitely a worth reading if you are interested in Sci-Fi horror.

I was given a copy of this book for free of my own choosing and have voluntarily left this review.

Great narration and an awesomely gruesome sci-fi

Loved this story and how the narrator brought the characters to life in this dark sci-fi novel.

The most gripping horror scifi in a long while!!

I was given a copy of this audiobook for free in exchange for an honest and fair review. And, here it is. Wow!! 5 stars all the way acrossthe board. The most gripping storyline I've read in a while, in scifi, scary as cras scenarios the likes of the classics, Alien, comes to mind. With a touch of twisted humor, (I'm reminded of Venom( is what just nailed this one. And the narration, was superb. The narration matched the pace and grip of the story completely. You became vested in all the characters from the start and to see what this book morphed into, makes me want to read the rest of the Necroverse series as soon as I can. Thanks mr Bunts for a copy, I can't wait to get more into this world.

Good and bad

First the narration was difficult at times, the constant up and down in his voice could get annoying but when he talked in a monotone voice it was like listening to a lecture, but he had different voices for everyone and otherwise did a good job.
Story is good if you like space horror with blood and guts this is good, there are some sex scenes some which may not seem fully consensual.

Gripping

This was my first Sci-Fi/Horror and, unexpectedly, erotica and it was good.

The storyline from the blurb sounded almost formulaic - an incident at a mining facility in space releases some pathogen and things get ugly. That is what happens, sort of. There is also a lot more....

The characters of importance are well described. The main character seems like a bit of a loser. He had a bad situation so he drinks, doesn’t talk about things and is insecure and cowed by his bitch of a boss. His girlfriend has a unpleasant family which she is running away from. The MC is a miner who unleashes something from a pocket within an asteroid / ore body because he ignores procedures and he ignores procedures because he is behind on his ore quota.

I expected him to start mutating or transforming which he did, but not in the way I expected. It’s almost as if the infection is a split personality wanting him to do things that he wouldn’t usually do. To spice it up the infection changes his body in subtle ways (at first) causing him to release more pheromones which drives women he encounters crazy with lust (hence the erotica bits) and makes men more aggressive towards him.

There was one scene I found almost tedious. The first fight at the clinic seemed to be much too drawn out especially since we see it twice, once from the MC’s viewpoint and once from his girlfriend’s. It was an important scene though, because it was the first time the second personality gained control.

Overall a good book and not the usual horror story. I enjoyed it.

Wasn't sure what to expect, turned out good

I never really imagined that something like Dead Space erotica existed, but now I know.
That is not a negative, as it is very well done on all accounts. If you like Dead Space/Scott Sigler style monster horror, with just a bit of erotica thrown in, then this story is right up your alley.

It's well written, with good characters and story arcs, well executed gore, and plenty of real tension, and I'm interested to find out what will happen in the next book. I finished it in two sessions, and that is mostly because I had to sleep at some point.

The narrator was also good, injecting a lot of visceral feeling into the gory bits. On occasion it would slip out in parts where normal things were happening, which was slightly amusing, but not distracting.
