This fantastic story grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it straight to the end. The characters are easy to relate to and connect with, they are easy to care about and root for too. Gemma, a single mom, lives in an upscale neighborhood, one she should feel safe in, except her neighbors are not the friendliest or the most welcoming. They have been trying to get her to sell, which she refuses to do, so now they have moved to using scare tactics to get her to leave. Having had enough she asks her daughter, who goes to the elite school, if any of her friends or students have parents who are lawyers and are good at what they do, and she blurts out Hayden Atwater, she wanted to add more but her mother ran out of the house to head to his office. When Gemma walks into Hayden’s office for a last-minute appointment, he mistakes her for a stripper. Gemma had forgotten she was still in her work clothes, and when she catches on to what he was thinking, she takes a step back. But he is not giving up on her, even after she clears things up, and since he is out of her price range, he offers her a deal, one she refused. Hayden does not take no for an answer and continues to pursue her even after she leaves his office, and after seeing her neighbors he reconsiders and then offers to help with her. I loved how everything played out in this book, there is some back and forth between the two leads before anything really happens between them and when it does, it is smoking hot. Gemma learns of Hayden’s son’s bullying way and that he and her daughter Parker do not get along, which is another reason things would not work out for her and Hayden, though he thinks it will and that his son won’t be a problem. This cleverly plotted story has plenty of drama, angst, some surprising twists and turns, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. Sam Mariano, thank you for another awesome story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Heather Firth and Jeffrey Holz were the perfect cast to bring these characters and story to life. They had a complete understanding of the characters they were portraying, gave each a voice that suited their character’s persona to a tee and were believable in every role they played. Heather Firth nailed it as Gemma, grasping every side of her personality and Jeffrey Holz did the same for Hayden, playing the perfect bossy, alpha-hole. Both were great performing the roles of the secondary characters too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions and projected them into their performance, make you feel every single one. These entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artists and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another exceptional listen.
