Summary

"Evolution is one of the most powerful and important ideas ever developed in the history of science. Every question it raises leads to new answers, new discoveries, and new smarter questions. The science of evolution is as expansive as nature itself. It is also the most meaningful creation story that humans have ever found."—Bill Nye

Sparked by a controversial debate in February 2014, Bill Nye has set off on an energetic campaign to spread awareness of evolution and the powerful way it shapes our lives. In Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation, he explains why race does not really exist; evaluates the true promise and peril of genetically modified food; reveals how new species are born, in a dog kennel and in a London subway; takes a stroll through 4.5 billion years of time; and explores the new search for alien life, including aliens right here on Earth.

With infectious enthusiasm, Bill Nye shows that evolution is much more than a rebuttal to creationism; it is an essential way to understand how nature works—and to change the world. It might also help you get a date on a Saturday night.

Critic reviews

“With his charming, breezy, narrative style, Bill empowers the reader to see the natural world as it is, not as some would wish it to be. He does it right. And, as I expected, he does it best.” —Neil deGrasse Tyson, Ph.D, host of COSMOS

“This gracefully written book provides a tour through not just the big ideas of evolution, but why evolution is such a captivating idea scientifically, philosophically, and emotionally. Written from the heart--but science always comes from the heart with Bill Nye.” —Eugenie C. Scott, Ph.D., author of Evolution vs. Creationism: An Introduction

“Bill Nye has written a wonderfully clear, readable, and enjoyable explanation of what evolution is and is not. In his casual, humorous style, he...describes the gigantic mountain of evidence that demonstrates that evolution not only happened in the past, but is happening in real time.” —Donald Prothero, Ph.D., author of Evolution: What the Fossils Say and Why It Matters

Unmistakable enthusiasm and knowledge

Nye's approach to arguing in favour of the science-based, fact-led approach to understanding our existence is commendable.
He clearly juxtaposes the most prominent arguments deployed by both sides and, it must be admitted, with a degree of frustration and incredulity, dismisses much of what Creationists have to offer to the debate.
He ably deals with the misrepresentation of science, most prominently the Second Law of Thermodynamics, by those who see God's will in all acts, and relates, with some humour, various stories from his own experience of dealing with such people in real life.
He plants his flag firmly in the punctuated equilibrium side of the Stephen J. Gould et al/Richard Dawkins et al argument, proposing that Gould's work makes most sense to him given the evidence to hand.
This is probably one of the best quick studies of the this contentious debate available on Audible.

Great Listen!

Yeah.. It panders to my world view but it is to date the simplest, most concise books I've read or heard that explains evolution the science its built on.

That and Bill Nye is fantastically entertaining preforming quotes and telling a fantastic tale!

A highly recommendable read for those interested in science but also for those who would love a great story that's well told!

I couldn't put it down.

Brilliant, informative, fun and I learned a few things too! I listened to it at work from start to finish, I've only done that with a handful of books.
Excellent!

Excellent Popular Audio Book

If you could sum up Undeniable in three words, what would they be?

Great Science Book

What did you like best about this story?

Always interesting. One of the best audio books I have listened to in a long time. Some books I listen to are clearly padded, but this one is packed with thought provoking science themes on a wide range of earth science topics. Absolutely first rate!

What about Bill Nye’s performance did you like?

The narration is first class. He explains things in clear and simple ways.

Very funny.

What made the experience of listening to Undeniable the most enjoyable?

Bill Nye himself.

What about Bill Nye’s performance did you like?

Although the topic is very serious, his performance is very entertaining, and often funny. I have read the book, but I find the audio version much more enjoyable.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the book immensely. It's clear, it's simple, and it's undeniable. I just have one misgiving - Bill seems to be saying that the only people with qualms about stem cell research are automatically creationists. I hold creationism in utter contempt, and yet I still have qualms about stem cell research.
