Summary
In 1958, a successful businessman named Robert Monroe began to have experiences that drastically altered his life. Unpredictably, and without his willing it, Monroe found himself leaving his physical body to travel via a "second body" to locales far removed from the physical and spiritual realities of his life. He was inhabiting a place unbounded by life or death.
Monroe recorded these experiences in two best-selling, landmark books, Journeys Out of the Body and Far Journeys. Ultimate Journey, his final and career-defining work, takes us further than we thought possible - and reveals to us what it all means.
Ultimate Journey charts that area which lies "over the edge," beyond the limits of the physical world. It presents us with a map of the "interstate" - the route that opens to us when we leave our physical lives, with their entry and exit ramps, their signposts and their hazards. It also tells us how Monroe found the route and travelled it, and uncovered the reason and the purpose of this pioneering expedition. It is a journey that reveals basic truths about the meaning and purpose of life - and of what lies beyond.
After six hardcover printings, the trade paperback edition of Ultimate Journey, will offer an even wider range of readers this exhilarating reading experience, the masterwork of one of the most daring and original thinkers and explorers of our time.

Any additional comments?
I'm not exactly au fait with OOBE lit.- have only read Journeys Out of the Body. Listening to Monroe's books in order doesn't seem to be important. Knowing shedloads about OOBEs doesn't seem to be a prerequisite either. Even for those who'd never had such an experience and didn't know much about the subject, Ultimate Journeys would surely still be interesting and entertaining for anyone with a modicum of open-mindedness and imagination.

Monroe's Final Masterpiece
Most of the concepts and stories related in Ultimate Journey seem to be a follow on from his second book Far Journeys. However, this the last in his series of books is more easy to follow and discusses a number of very profound concepts relating to not only the existence of consciousness following physical death, but the nature of what he refers to as the "time space illusion".
Some of the issues that Monroe delves into will be familiar to those who have followed the works of Jane Roberts who channelled the entity Seth, although Monroe's language and terminology differs to some extent. However, there are some very interesting parallels in that he goes into some detail about the nature of the oversoul or what he terms the "I There". Through his own subjective experiences in out of body states, he demonstrates how each individual consciousness is in actuality an offshoot of a much greater self which realises itself through projection into various time frames which has been popularly termed "reincarnation". Like Seth, Monroe shows that the notion of rebirth is something that has become somewhat distorted in an attempt to make sense of it via the filter of our own logical understanding. All lives it seems are simultaneous, at least from the perspective of the oversoul.
I would say this is probably my favourite of his three books in so far as it challenges many of the long held cherished beliefs prevalent throughout human history, particularly in regards to religion. Monroe wrote from experience, and unlike most other works dealing with this subject it is short on fanciful theorising.

A really good book
I listened to this after listening to William Bulham and I had heard much about the Monroe Institute. This book did not disappoint, and has left me wanting more and wanting myself to become one of the lifeline students who can help people transition.
