About this listen

James of Ecclestone thought that when Perkin Warbeck was executed his days as a spy were over. He was wrong. Kings do not forget men who are useful to them and James was a master of his craft. Wanting nothing more than a life of peace with a new family James is thrown into the maelstrom of politics, intrigue and knives in the night.

James of Ecclestone in Book I develops his skill as a Billman. As a spy in France, he develops his Martial Skills as a Gentleman. In Book 2, his unique talents are appreciated by a new Young King and his Spymaster. I couldn't stop listening as I followed our heroes adventures in England, Scotland and France. Griff Hosker introduced me to a new Martial Skill; that of a Billman. I had to google a picture to see what a magnificent weapon it was. I enjoyed every minute of this book and hope there is a Book III.

It was so good, I finished the book in two days!

Enjoyed the story and the development golf the characters.
The pronunciation of Lancashire villages was off.
Meols is “Mells” and Burscough isn’t Burskoff but ‘Bursco’. Some may pronounce it, Burskew but not many locally perhaps

Very good story

A brilliant story but I had to stop listening because the narration was so fast with no break between sentences and no variation in the tone of voice - even when there was a change in accent for a particular character. I have listened to the sample from Book 3 and it sounds better even though it's the same man reading it. A great pity.

Disjointed narration

Not a bad tale but maybe needed some padding with better descriptions of the time and location. I found the narration grating at times with mispronunciation and occasionally seemed slurred.
I like the main character and his conflicts.

Little bit flat
