He picked the four o'clock because nobody he knows will be at it.Robert Hollin is fifty-three, two years out of the job he left rather than sign a number he didn't believe, and one phone call from going back. The offer is good. The math is not close. On a Sunday in September, in a church that isn't his, he decides to lay it all down. What he sees when he closes his eyes is not what he came for: a man in a white robe with a crowd in the dark behind him, a sword in his hand, and a woman fifteen years dead stepping out of the shadow to stop him.Try the Spirits is a novella about a man who came to church to stop carrying something and left knowing he is supposed to keep carrying it, only now he can see whose it is. It runs the length of one Mass, and it is about what a man is allowed to put down, and what was never his to surrender.©2026 Fifth Floor Press LLC (P)2026 Fifth Floor Press LLC Biographical Fiction Genre Fiction Literary Fiction
