Summary

Zoe is an interior designer with a unique sense of style. But even more uncanny is her sense of what's going on under the surface, the secrets a house can hold. At the moment, though, Zoe isn't concerned about a client's space. She's more worried about what's going on in her own house in Whispering Springs, Arizona, where she lives with her new husband, private investigator Ethan Truax.

After a whirlwind courtship and a dangerous adventure, they've gambled on commitment, hoping that their powerful attraction can help them learn to live together despite their utterly opposite personalities. But newlywed life is suddenly interrupted when a shadowy figure from Zoe's past shows up in Whispering Springs, and her closest friend is put at terrible risk. For Zoe and Arcadia Ames share a shocking secret. And as they seek to protect the truth, they must join together and, with Ethan's help, accept a very dangerous dare.

Screaming Walls

I wasn't really convinced by the summary of the book, but I was pleasantly surprised by the recording. I especially enjoyed the banter between Zoe and Ethan. It seemed very real. I'm not sure I bought the whole psychic designer bit... (I don't think the plot needed that.) Overall, it was a fun listen. I liked the interaction with the disheveled neighbor at Casa de Oro in particular. Great narrator. Fun characters, but not my favorite JAK novel.

Loved this sequel

Why are there only 2 books in this richly layered series? I liked both books much and felt there was so much material for another book. Two lead characters who always need to worry about money-very unusual in this genre. It helps make them more relatable. They are funny, full of angst, clever, compassionate, etc. Really enjoyed both books.

Book 1 & 2 are not the same narrator !!

Where does Truth or Dare rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I like both stories in the series 1.Light in Shadow 2.Truth or Dare. What I didn't like was that the narrator on book 1 was different from book 2. The character's voices completely changed and so the portrayal was off. Especially Arcadia and Ethan's Characters were changed. Arcadia sounded like she was 20 instead of a sophisticated woman as portrayed in book 1.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Zoey and Ethan are both strong and interesting characters.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Amanda Cobb?

My main complaint is that there are 2 books in this series and Joyce Bean narrated the first 1st book and created the characters in my mind by her performance then Amanda Cobb narrated the 2nd book and changed the character portrayal completely.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The first was better

I wish that there was more continuity in characters. the voices did not come through the same on this reading. What happened to Bonnie's accent and Arkadia's deep, smooth drawl? There was too much repetitive effort to explain Zoe's marriage and it's difficulties.

Outstanding!

This was part 2 in the Whispering Springs series, and it was even better than part one!
LOVED Zoe and Ethan and all their friends!
I would certainly buy any subsequent books in the series, although I have no idea if they even exist. JAK is a master in this genre!!❤️

GOOD STORY....BUT...

I enjoyed this story but I think Jayne Ann Krentz miss the boat by having two different narrators doing book 1 and 2. She should have used Joyce Bean for both releases. When an author doesn't follow through with the same narrator that begins the series, it changes the characters and totally distracts from the original characters. Zoe's voice sounded terribly immature and it was difficult to determine who was speaking at times. Although I'm truly disappointed in the narration, I still gave the Performance a 4-star rating mainly because I couldn't decide if I was being unfair to Amanda Cobb. I hope that Jayne Ann Krentz reads the reviews and considers changing things in the future.

Interesting plot. Poor narrator.

I'm a Jayne Krentz fan so I'm biased. I enjoyed the story and wish she would write more about the other characters in the plot. Unfortunately, I found the narrator to be very poor. Her vocal distinctions among the various characters was almost non- existent. Her narration came very close to ruining the book.

narrator not for me

i found that she didn't provide a lot of distinction between the different characters, especially the male voices.
Definitely prefer the older 2003 version with Joyce Bean, which is now hard to find (listened to it from the library).

very disappointed. Jayne's worst. <br />

could not finish it. Many favorites, but this not one of them. Even her works in the 60s were keepers.
