Summary

My name is Romeo Harmon, and I’m the new sheriff of Prosper Woods, a small California town smack dab in the middle of the sequoia forest. People around here tell me the town hasn’t changed a whole hell of a lot since power lines and telephones were installed. It’s a quaint place with a movie theater that shows the old classics, a saloon with a decent choice of beer, a general store with a grumpy old coot behind the till, a gas station with a pimply young mechanic, and a bed and breakfast that attracts tourists and vacation money.

I think I’m gonna like it here.

My name is Vincent Lasco. I’ve searched a long time to find a new place to settle down. Because of what I am, I need to pull up stakes and start over every 20 years or so - before people realize that I don’t age anymore. Prosper Woods has everything a man like me could ever want. Though there aren’t many humans, it doesn’t really matter. I’m so old, I don’t need to eat very often, and there’s no reason to expose myself to the locals whom I hope to call friends some day.

I think I’m gonna like it here.

There are newcomers in town. Prosper Woods is a nice place, as long as you’re passing through. I wonder how long these folks will stay once they find out what’s really going on here. Somehow....

I don’t think they’re gonna like it here.

True Knight is the prequel to the Prosper Woods Chronicles and includes an excerpt from True Mate, the first book in the new series.

Not bad

This I'd labeled as a prequel, but it really felt more like book one of the series. The romance moved extremely fast and the MC who was unaware of the paranormal world just accepted everything (including his lover being a vampire, which he discovered by seeing fangs in bed) a bit too easily. I liked it better than book 1.

A wonderful new series!

This book is the prequel to a new series and I enjoyed a lot the format the author used to introduce us to the town and the characters. It was funny to read the letters to the editor and how they were related to the events in every chapter in a twisted way. Of course, some surprises, sweet moments and few angst made everything even better. Now, what was the cherry on top, was to discover that this amazing story was narrated by John Solo. As a huge fan of his work, I just loved so much how beautifully he read this captivating prequel. So wonderful!

John Solo at his best!

Narrator John Solo nailed this one on the head! His choice of voices for the characters was perfectly on parr. I’m very glad to hear his deeper voices for the protagonists.

So exercise that distal phalanx (p3), or pointer finger and keep that nail trimmed, buffed, polished, and ready to push that buy button. True Knight is the prequel to the Prosper Woods Chronicles and includes an excerpt from True Mate, the first book in the new series, and it’s fucking awesome. One word: Unicorn!

Author Patricia Logan wrote an abundantly rich and ample bunch of lovable characters. I’m am stoked to get to know them all. If the rest of the series is as well-rounded and fresh as the prequel I predict an unforgettable series.

Happy Listening

3.5 Stars ⭐️

This is a good start to what seems to be a promising series. I’m a big fan of large magical communities and prosper woods seems to deliver in spades. This novella was a little saccharine and everything was tied up a little too neatly, but I foresee most of the issues and dangers coming to our MCs as they navigate their new relationship in this magical little town. If you like lots of different paranormal characters and don’t shy away from Instalust/instalove, I recommend this book especially when narrated by the always amazing John Solo.

Enthralling and Compelling with Twists.

MM paranormal romance. A fantastic introduction to Prosper Woods and it's inhabitants, old and new. I was quickly drawn into the story and loved the quirky humour that popped up throughout. Romeo has just moved there to become Sheriff and is totally unaware of the paranormals that call Prosper Woods and the surrounding area home, indeed there is alot he is unaware of. He meets fellow newcomer Vincent and they both feel drawn to each other but Vincent quickly realises he's chosen badly when deciding to settle in Prosper Woods. Great narration by John Solo.

Truly Delightful

True Knight is the first book in the Prosper Woods series, and although it’s advertised as a prequel to the series, it felt more like a standard first book setting the scene. I highly recommend starting the series with this book.

I love the Prosper Woods series, it is a paranormal series with a Nightvale flair, mixed with mystery and action. True Knight introduces us to Romeo, the new sheriff, and the magnificent Vincent, a vampire who just moved to town. Romeo and Vincent have an instalove from the moment their eyes meet. The attraction and chemistry between them is undeniable, which leads to some extremely hot and steamy scenes. Although this book was short, it immediately grabbed my attention and kept me engaged and interested in the series. My favorite part is the detailed and interesting the worldbuilding.

The audiobook was narrated by John Solo who does a fantastic job. The voices he does for all the characters are perfect, and I thoroughly enjoyed his performance.

The Vampire Knight and the Sheriff

Just about every book I’ve read recently has been a paranormal, and most of those have been shifter books. When the opportunity arose to dip my toe (or jump in completely) to Prosper Woods, I leapt at the chance. Patricia Logan is a new-to-me author but she’s been around for a long time. I figured deciding to listen to these books was a no-brainer.

Romeo has recently left the big city of LA to move up to Northern California. Prosper Woods is near the famous Sequoia Forest which I have always wanted to visit. Now, he’s gone from being a small fish in a big pond to a huge fish in a small pond. Being a sheriff will do that. He’s in for the shock of his life, though, because Prosper Woods is no ordinary town.

Vincent is a new resident in town. He has to move every twenty years or so because eventually people notice he isn’t aging. What began as a life as a knight seven hundred years ago has carried him through a lot of history. He sets up an antiques store as a cover and has a basement built to suit his…unusual needs. To him, Prosper Woods is just another stop in his eternal life.

When Romeo and Vincent meet, there are instant sparks. Like, major chemistry. And although Vincent senses Romeo is different, the lawman is positively clueless. Until things come to a head and all is revealed. And I won’t give away the biggest secret because I so did not see that coming and I want other listeners to have the same ‘wow’ moment. I mean, I thought I’d seen it all – I was wrong.

I’m excited I’ve been able to pick up the series and am listening back-to-back and just before I move on, I want to say John Solo did an excellent job of narrating. He nailed the California accent while also managing Vincent’s European one.

Made me want to read more in this series!

True Knight is the first book I’ve read by Patricia Logan. I’ve heard really great things about her writing so I jumped at the opportunity to get a review copy of this audiobook. The good things I heard were all true; I loved this book.

The writing is great and the audio performance by John Solo is a pleasure to listen to (no surprise there, he’s on my list of favorite audiobook performers). This story introduces a lot of different magical creatures (some good and some not so good) and the start of the romance between Rome and Vincent.

While I wouldn’t say that this book has a cliffhanger exactly there are definitely some issues left unresolved. There’s trouble brewing in Prosper Woods and I’m looking forward to finding out more.

A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.
