This is book number three in the Detective J. P. Beaumont series from J.A.Jance and it's another fine example of the awful, unexpected and plausible things people do to each other.

JP is investigating a murder of a black basketball coach found naked in the street. With his partner, Peters, they get closer to the killer than either knows and, slowly but surely, their enquiries get them on the right track. This is really well written, exciting and pacy and I recommend listening to it.

Gene Engene has a great voice, although there are some characterisations that are infuriating and too many occasions when people snap out their words as if bullets replaced speech. Despite that Maxwell Cole, the determined, insightful and annoying journalist makes another appearance and there is more than enough for any lover of detective fiction to keep them engaged.

A clever plot with lots of twists
