About this listen

When a woman is snatched from a wood, Inspector Superintendent Pat North seizes control of her first major enquiry - one that appears to be over before it begins, when a local sex offender quickly confesses.

With no body and inconsistent statements, North and her team are not convinced. They investigate a strange family of musical geniuses - each with their own motive.

But if the man who confessed isn't the perpetrator - who is? And how far will they go to evade capture?

The final book in the series kept up the pace throughout, just as in all the previous volumes. Can't praise the author enough for her brilliant characterisation. All the main players are totally believable. Praise also for Colin Made who narrates this series as though he were a cast of dozens. Remarkable talent. Quite an emotional end to the whole thing.

The way the whole series work was brilliant.
Each book with its own special theme running through out. Here the well known characters of Pat North and Michael Walker continue their journey Pat’s leading her first murder investigation and family ties, love and music provide the undercurrent to what unfolds. Lynda la Plante writes yet another gripping story.

A brilliant last book in the series, shame to see that Mike and Pat split up but I did think for most of the book that Mike was going down for murder, but he did get away with it only to learn that through Pats eyes and mine he did do it, this book is set mainly in the courtroom, absolutely brilliant, narration added good insight in peocedure

Compelling intriguing murder courtroom mystery
