Summary
What happens when a 37-year-old office worker, who exercises marginally less than the average cheese sandwich, decides to walk 630 miles of challenging coastline in one go? Will he go on an epic voyage of self-discovery...or just get really knackered?
Find out the answers to these important questions, and many more, by joining him on a grand adventure that takes in 26,719 steps, 921 stiles, 302 bridges, 91,000 feet of climbing and descending, one seal, zero basking sharks, lots of chips and one overweight, oversize backpack.

more cheerful than the salt path
Unlike the couple in the salt path this chap actually seems to enjoy his surroundings and the walk. It is the sort of honest feel good experience of the path I was hoping for. I found it mildly amusing rather than hilarious. However it was the feeling of being taken on a pleasant walk that I was after and this delivered. I bought it after listening to 'Afloat' which I loved. Both books are miles better escapes than the much hyped but moan laden Salt Path. If you like to wallow in others misery choose the Salt Path, but for those with a more positive outlook I recommend this.

Rival for Bill Bryson
Very funny and enjoyable account of walking the South West Coast Path. May also inspire you to take a long walk or perhaps quit your job and do something else, be warned! Well worth a listen, thoroughly enjoyed it.

What a journey!
A lovely journey of the south west coast path. This book made me laugh out loud so many times, smiled a whole many more and I cried too!
So rich in stories and experiences that it makes you want to walk the sw coast path. Such a feel good read.

A realistic account, funny at times
It was good to listen to during the lockdown and give me some inspiration to keep going and prepare for my next long distance walking trips when it's permitted.

A bit dull
I was hoping to do the same walk by taking a sabbatical and was hoping for more insight into how the author was feeling having escaped his job for a few weeks, but his state of mind and emotions are not really mentioned. He suffered insomnia but again never really elaborates on how his insomnia is on the journey. Also some insight into equipment needed, tips on doing the walk, places to stay etc would have been useful.

Funny story, shame he has it in for the golfers...
Funny in parts, good story and makes you want to get up and walk and explore some of the areas mentioned.
Bangs on far too much about how he hates golf courses and the average golfer, but still wouldn’t hold that against him.
I like the pace of the listen, but found the narration too quiet in places which was frustrating, however overall was a jolly romp along several beautiful county coastal paths.

Just off for a lark
I’d love to give this book five stars but I can’t. It is essentially a very funny book but some of the egocentric wit and corny humour is a bit wearing at times. The irony is I have actually stayed in one of the hotels described in this text though i’ve never noticed that the floors sloped or that the corridors were of different widths so it that was a ddesign thing for people with visual impaired issues well I guess you might say it failed. Anyway the naration is good and there are some very funny passages. It’s really a whistle stop guide book and tour of the south-west coastal path. There’s not all that much description of landmarks though some nice observations concerning the scenery and views. it doesn’t get bogged down in details of journeys taken with friends along the way which for me is good. Some might find it a bit too much of a whistle stop tour but I thought it was about right and i really liked the touch of poignancy at the end.

very entertaining.
this was a great listen. brilliantly read it funny and self deprecating and managed to put a Ross the highs and lows of the walk. highly recommended.
