Summary

“Well, now I’m committed,” he thought to himself after telling a national TV game show audience that he wanted to ride a motorcycle to Mongolia with his winnings. He felt the fear that commitment always induced in him; he was hoping they might have edited that bit out. Commitments are something he tried to get as far away from as possible, the only other constants in his life being twenty-five years of financial prudence, travel and motorcycle obsession. So there he was, committed to going very, very far on a motorcycle with his meager prize money. Consequently, he spent a winter on eBay and a spring in the garage preparing his $1000 KLR 650 for an uncertain life on the road. Armed with a cynical humor, a strong sense of direction, a vague sense of balance, and no sense of proportion, he embarked on a 15,000-mile solo motorcycle ride to see what would break first; bike, body, or budget. Leaving an indifferent existence in England behind he headed east, looking for purpose, a new life, and a new location to live it. He was in search of greener grass.

really great read

as a fellow biker / traveler I could relate so easily to a lot of Graham's thoughts as he traveled around . many of his problems I had also encountered to a lesser or greater extent . I enjoyed his honest view point and found it refreshing to hear some one tell it how it is . reading this book as just made me hungry for another road trip and more adventures .
I have had the pleasure of meeting Graham on a few occasions and he's a really nice guy full of useful tips and advice
i wish him many more safe journeys

Great book

Very entertaining and full of opinionated but humorous observations about all sorts of travelling folks, life in general and the authors own views.

loved it

finally a Adventure Travel book that I can listen to and not be continually frustrated by the stupidity of the author! Graham tells this story wonderfully and captures your imagination in a no-nonsense way of describing the places and situations he encountered but most of all, he reads it so well! with emotion in his voice where it is needed and with a fluidity that is refreshing to hear and so easy to listen to. great job I've already bought the next book, thank you

Loved it

Just downloaded the next book from Graham as I loved the first
Loved the honesty and humour of his writing and his opinions of his fellow traveller’s
Want to listen to someone who isn’t afraid to tell how it appears to him at the time and doesn’t care about what you think ?
Then this author is for you

Greener Grass......

Loved it.
A real person having a real adventure, not a couple of rich boys charging around on free bikes, wearing free kit, with back up and film crew.
I started listening again, with Roger Waters playing in the background.
100% recommended.

Couldn't finish it

I like motorbikes and I like tales of journeys by bike. Sam Manicom/Ted Simon/Henry Cole/Ewan and Charley.

But I can't listen to any more of this. His Essex boy drawl gets on my nerves as does the constant descriptions of how attractive (or not) the girls/women were.

Plus he's so miserable! He's never happy whether he's alone or riding with others. Some reviews liked the realism of the writing. I just found it, and him, tedious. I gave up at Chapter 13 and will be taking his other books off my wish list.

Returned!

The book that got me hooked.

I came across this while searching for travel books to inspire me and it did not disappoint. I love Graham's honestly and 'no frills' way of doing things. He proves you don't need to remortgage the house, take out a crazy loan or apply for sponsorship to explore the world! his honest recount of his highs and lows wisp you along for the ride too. I loved it and often go back to listen again. I highly recommend this and indeed his other books which are just as good.

Didn’t want it to end !

I really enjoyed this personal account of a great motorcycle journey. I laughed out loud many times. I also appreciated the frank and honest opinions the authors gave on places he visited and people he encountered.

The author is a talented writer and I was sad when this book finished ! I will download his other books ASAP! If you like motorbikes this will be right up your alley but I think anyone will enjoy this great travel tale.
