Summary
However, Tony's hopelessly ill-prepared stumbling into the world of overseas home ownership is perhaps best read as a useful manual of how not to go about buying a house abroad. He foolishly elects to build a swimming pool himself and takes his experience of relationships to a new level when he finds himself co-habiting, not with a beautiful French woman, but with a middle-aged builder from West London.
Yet, as Tony and his friends haplessly attempt to integrate themselves into local village life, they learn more about themselves and each other than they ever thought possible.

Great book, very funny.
I was in stitches laughing so much at times. Other times it was sensitive and touching. I'm just disappointed that it was not a bit longer. I want to know how the pool was finished and what happened to Fi. I'm making a point to read all the rest of Tony's books now though. Maybe the answers are there!

Enjoyable

Another easy read (listen) from Tony Hawks
This is the first Tony Hawks book I have listened to, having read a couple of his previous books. As he has also narrated this book it feels as though he is sitting in your front room having a chat over a cup of tea. A lovely, easy listen. I was only disappointed it was quite short. Did it really need to be abridged?

Perfect
Where does A Piano in the Pyrenees rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Adored this book brought back feelings again of moving to France and loved that the author read as well made it more personal, it was exciting funny and heart warming if you love travel books like me you will love this one.

Another Classic
Tony Hawks deliveres another brilliant ramble, and having lived in France perfectly sums up the nature of the land. Captures the dry sense of humour the Frence have. Extremely funny.

Tedious
Hmm... I have to admit that I didn't get all the way through this tedious ramble. I valiantly waded through two of my three CD's before throwing them into the back of the car. I have been to the Pyrenees twice and was looking forward to Tony capturing some of the magic of this region. He doesn't. It starts off well enough but his experience of buying a property and living there just isn't interesting. You're left with the distinct impression that he's embellishing many of his experiences to spice up his story. Maybe I should have listened to the final CD - perhaps he married a cross-dressing local or rescued passengers from a crashed jet. More likely I suspect he had more ?humorous? experiences. Perhaps something along the lines of an embarrassing episode in the market when he confuses the French words for onions and testicles.
Give this one a miss. A more interesting read would be a road map of the Pyrenees.
