Summary

"John Doe" was just another patient. A criminal.

As a prison nurse, I knew the rules: do my job, don't get involved, and never let a prisoner get under my skin.

I broke all three.

My passion, my obsession, my addiction. I risked my entire life so we could be together.

I thought helping him escape from prison would be the hard part. It turns out when you fall in love with a villain, you also turn into one.

Great gritty book.

Such a great storyline. Absolutely love the characters in this book. There is so much emotion. There is not many authors that will touch on the subjects that Nicole has in this book, however it was done so well.

Loved this dark romance!

Fantastic listen with a great story. Loved the characters and got major Joker and Harly Quinn vibes from Grayson and Tessa. Fantastic narrator as well, she really captured the emotion of the characters and unique voices for each character. I received a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Dark romance. 1POV. HEA. Standalone.

This is a Dark romance. I like the risk the author took with the setting.

Dark and Edgy!

Suspense books have always been a favorite of mine. This dark story by Nicole Blanchard kept me on edge the entire listen. The narration by Susan Fouche was outstanding. She gave such realistic emotions to the various characters along with distinguishable voices. The imagery in this book is vivid. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

We all need a little bit of King 😉

Initially The voice of Vic gave me the shudders lol like what was Tessa thinking marrying him — as the story unfurls — we meet John Doe and sparks start to fly, sketches begin to surface as Tessa starts to open up to the new prisoner feeling the pull — upon hearing King’s voice as situations arise out of their control initially I likened Heaven’s character to that of Jared Leto’s Joker lol the way he toyed with Harley Quinn “Little Mouse” after a close encounter with the inmate Tessa asks him his name and then looks it up to confirm what he’s told her and upon further investigation Tessa uncovers a little more information about our hottt commodity — but as the story developed I found questions and their answers throughout I love how Gracen and Tessa have moved mountains against all their trials and tribulations a recommended. Great Read

Toxic was a great read by Nicole Blanchard. I absolutely loved reading Tessa and Grayson's story even when I shouldn't like Grayson. Tessa is a prison nurse who is married to the abusive prison warden. She broke all the rules for the handsome prisoner Grayson. I loved reading their story and even when things seemed hard for them, I rooted for the both of them. I can't wait to read more by Nicole Blanchard.

Bold, violent, unusual. Loved it!

Because even the bad guys can find love. Glad Tessa stopped being a mouse with Grayson's help.

Descriptive but a little too unbelievable

********** AUDIOBOOK REVIEW **********

Toxic was my first book by Nicole Blanchard. She definitely delivered on the darkness and some brutal sex. I’d caution you if you don’t enjoy dark romances, you may want to rethink Toxic. Toxic is heavy in the abuse, both physical and emotional, not including the bloody deaths throughout. I enjoy a variety of books... I love all the different genres. However, I do like my storyline to be a bit realistic and Blanchard lost me a bit here and there. There were certain areas that just didn’t seem plausible. I also couldn’t quite figure out Tessa’s thought-process. One minute she wanted out and was ready to run... and the next she was in love and staying. The epilogue also felt really disconnected from the book. I also would have loved dual POV.

Besides those issues, for me, the writing was descriptive and very well written. Ms. Blanchard seems to be really creative and even gory in her storytelling. The narrator, Susan Fouche had an incredibly sexy voice! She definitely portrayed anger perfectly and tension.

if you're looking for dark romance, stop here!

Nurse Tessa Emerson works at a correctional facility...she is also married to the warden. She has been abused, physically, emotionally and mentally, by her husband for their entire 3 yr marriage. On one particular 'inmate intake' day, she encounters Gracin Kingsley. There's just something about him that draws Tessa in...like a moth to a flame. When Gracin is assigned to work in the infirmary, the pair strike up a friendship, of sorts, and Tessa confesses the abuse that she endures. Just when she begins to grow a backbone and stand up to her husband, a series of events leads to Tessa being on the run. Can she survive on her own?
Gracin Kingsley is no ordinary prisoner...he was sent in to prison to do a job. Once that job was completed, he used the vulnerable nurse Tessa to escape. That escape leads to unforeseen consequences, now he has to rescue Tessa from the people who are hunting him down. Once that's accomplished, Gracin has to keep Tessa safe.
Can these two broken people people forgive past hurts and betrayals and work together? Is there an HEA for them?
WOW...I could not put down this book until The End! I have read other books by this author so was prepared for something a bit dark, but was still blown away by this story. Definitely a re-read/re-listen.

Toxic

Tessa starts off in this book as a broken down and beaten woman. The things she has had to go through are hard to hear, but when King finds out what’s going on and befriends her she starts to see the work differently. The chemistry between these two are Hot and the love scenes are some of the hottest I’ve read. Watching these two throughout this book has you feeling every emotion in your mind and luckily you have a happy ending when completed. The narration in this book was fantastic as well. All in all, I will definitely be looking into more from this pair.
