Summary

How exactly has one good deed landed me in the penalty box?

Ice Knights defenseman Zach Blackburn has come down with the flu, and my BFF - his PR manager - begs me to put my nursing degree to use and get him back to health. Of course she would call in a favor for the most hated man in Harbor City.

But when he’s finally on the mend and I’m sneaking out of his place, everything goes sideways. Paparazzi spot me and pictures, plus accusations that I slept with him, fly faster than a hockey puck.

At first, all of Harbor City wants my blood - or to give me a girlie-girl makeover. But then…the team finally wins a game. And now this fickle town wants me with the big jerk twenty-four seven.

Argh. I never slept with him the first time! But no one will listen. Then the grumpy bastard goes and promises to break his no-fan-appearances rule to help raise money for a free health clinic - but only if I’m rink-side at every game. That’s not a deal I can turn down.

But when the team keeps winning, and I realize there’s more to him than his bad reputation, suddenly remembering to keep my real hands off my fake date gets harder and harder to do.

Just what I needed...

I want to say that this is my favorite book in the series, but I enjoyed it so much that I want to go back and read Butterface and Muffin Top just to make sure (and also because they're pretty awesome books too). I'm so stoked to read Parental Guidance and get more Ice Knights delightfulness! I also hope we get more from the Hartigan clan because I sort of love them. I loved how fierce and unapologetically self Fallon is - she knows her strengths and weaknesses and embraces them. I also love how vulnerable Zach is - he's just a big old softy in a hard shell. I think that my favorite part of Tomboy though, is that we get enough drama for the plot to move at a good pace, but minimal angst (I had enough of that in the last 7 books I read - your girl was in need of a break). This was just a fun, sexy (perhaps even sexier than the first two books?), lighthearted gem of a story and a great intro to a new series that I'm SUPER excited for! 4.5 out of 5 wine glasses.

Loved it!

My favorite of the Hartigan series. I loved both Zach and Fallon. She was sassy and took no crap. He was prideful and loved her sass. Lots of good quips. This one really made me feel. The narrators brought the characters to life perfectly.

Tomboy

LOVED THIS ONE!!!!! Zach is really just a great big teddy bear when you get to know him and has had a hard time of it but now that he has Fallon Hartigan on his side as his Lady Luck things are looking brighter for him and the Ice Knights. What starts as a bad case of food poisoning and Fallon nursing him back to health at Lucy's request turns into so much more. Add in the banter, the texts, the Hartigan family meals, and all those well intentioned and helpful nudges from friends, family members and teammates and how could they go wrong. Definitely cannot miss this one!

Best of the series

Wish this wasn't the last of the Hartigan stories. Although it wouldn't have added to this story, I would have liked to have more interaction between the hero and the brothers. What there is in the story though is perfect; no need to drag it out. Narrator not the best with male voices.

Awwww

As a female that was or maybe still is a tomboy 🤣 I enjoyed this story. ok, maybe only a few things like she doesn't get her nails done? come on now and the part at the end with the muffin ( no spoilers) but that's minor things. I'm glad that there's a story out about a tomboy that does like guys. (no offense to anyone just hate the stereotype that's all and yes I use to play basketball lol).

Great Hartigan story

This is Fallon's story. She's a nurse and is always taking care of everyone plus working a fulltime job and volunteering at a clinic. Even though it's her weekend off, she goes to help with a sick Zach Blackburn, the most hated hockey player in town. He's not playing well after being traded to the hockey team due to the personal reasons that he's keeping secret. After she nurses him back to health, a misleading picture is taken of them and then he plays well again and the team wins. Everyone calls her Lady Luck and he asks negotiates with her to be at the home games and to call him for away games. As long as they keep this up, he's winning. Will he trust Fallon enough with his secrets? Will the press and comments about her looking like a tomboy tear them apart? I liked the narration by Savannah Peachwood and Brian Pallino. Avery Flynn really knows how to write wonderful stories. Since there are so many Hartigan's, I hope there are plans for more books about them.

Yet another great Hartigan story...

In fact, I think Fallon’s and Zach’s might be my favorite so far. These two have so many great moments which run from sweet to steamy, and it’s a reader’s delight to follow along with them. After a rough deal thanks to his parents, Ice Knight’s defenseman, Zach Blackburn tries to keep everyone at a distance; however, all his walls are no match for the take-no-prisoners Fallon Hartigan. Fallon is a strong h, who fights for who and what matters to her, even if they might not want her to. I love that she never once considers being anything but true to herself; as with Gina and Lucy in the previous books, Flynn has made a heroine who refuses to be confined by the boxes society insists on fashioning for women. Fallon is more than capable of standing up for herself, as well as standing by Zach.

Another enjoyable element here is that we get to visit with old friends - the other Hartigans and Fallon’s best ladies - and Flynn also sets up some potential Hs for her forthcoming Ice Knights series. I am a sucker for a good series, especially a good hockey series, so I am very excited to see how those possibilities play out.

I listened to as well as read this one. Narrators Brian Pallino and Savannah Peachwood both return for this installment and once again add another dimension to Flynn’s already likeable characters. Peachwood strikes the perfect balance of tough yet vulnerable for Fallon, while Pallino is pitch perfect as the gruff but lovable Zach. Their performances make this one well worth a listen.

Recommended for anyone who enjoys a broody hockey player and the no nonsense nurse who wins his heart.
