Summary
In dem kleinen Städtchen St. Petersburg am Mississippi lebt der Waisenjunge Tom Sawyer mit seinem strebsamen Bruder Sid bei seiner Tante Polly. Tom ist ein richtiger Lausbube, sein Herz hat er an die hübsche Becky verloren. Er schwänzt die Schule, prügelt sich und treibt sich am liebsten mit seinem besten Freund Huckleberry Finn herum. Dieser hat keinen festen Wohnsitz, keine Mutter mehr und sein Vater ist ein stadtbekannter Trinker. Durch Toms blühende Fantasie und die vielen neue Streiche, die ihm einfallen, geraten die beiden Freunde immer wieder in spannende Abenteuer entlang des Mississippi: So werden sie z. B. Zeugen einer fürchterlichen Tat, laufen von zu Hause weg, gehen auf Schatzsuche und werden treue Freunde des entlaufenen Sklaven Jim.
