About this listen

Gideon Ellery had the perfect life. Nice house, great job, and a long-time boyfriend. Weeks after adopting his nephew, his boyfriend splits, leaving Gideon a single father to a newborn. Overwhelmed, sleep deprived, and unsure how to navigate fatherhood, he’s asked to return to the office. He’s overwhelmed and at his breaking point.

Toby Barlow is back in Sydney after three years of studying, travelling, and nannying in the UK. He needs work and a place to live, and the perfect solution drops in his lap. After all, caring for a sweet baby in a beautiful home owned by a gorgeous single man isn’t exactly terrible.

Gideon isn’t too keen to share his life with a stranger, but his need for help is too great. Sunshiny Toby isn’t prepared for a grumpy Gideon or his utterly adorable son, Benson. Or how easily he slots into their lives. And Gideon’s not prepared for how much he needs Toby.

Or how much he wants him.

Neither is prepared for the complications of falling in love.

This is such a sweet story. I love grumpy/sunshine tropes as long as the grumpy doesn't go too far and in this book while Tony is definitely sunshine personified, Gideon is just a bit grumbly in the very beginning about having to leave his baby boy to go to work. He very quickly lightened up. I loved all the characters especially the 2 MCs. They had instant chemistry. The book was fun from start to finish and I listened to it all in one listen. There is zero angst. It was just a very sweet story from start to finish.

Note: There is a ton of ex bashing all the way through the book for him not wanting kids. I was torn how to feel about that and I dont know why they were even together if they wanted different things. It doesn't really discuss the details, just puts down the ex constantly for choosing to not want kids.

The narrator had a pleasant reading voice and expressed all the emotions really well. I really enjoyed listening to this story.

Have listened to this authors books before and they’re always captivating but this one really did make you feel good. From beginning to end I just wanted to listen to it and didn’t wanna stop. Like to think there would be a second book to follow up from this and what happens next.
Also crossover from another one of these authors books was nice to hear and if you get the chance listen and you won’t be sorry.
five stars all the way.

A real feel good story

Updated October 2025:
After a relisten I find the atory stronger and would rate it 4,5*. Finding your person and family is mkre important then ever.

Gideon and Toby their story is sweet with no angst. It is a single dad MM romance with an in house nanny for cute Benson.
This book flowed nicely and I enjoyed this sweet story with a hea and nice supporting cast of friends and family. My only slight hang up is that is the grey area of starting a relationship with the person you work for. Then again they are both consenting adults and Benson was no worse of by it all. 4*

Audiobook
Narration by Glenn Llyod was nice and flowy and he made destinctions between characters. The Australian accent is a nice bonus for me. He is a new to me narrator and he was another good discovery. 5-*

Overall 4,5*
