About this listen

They say guardians and vampires once lived together in harmony.

But history is written by the victors....

When Aurelia is taken by Alain, the most powerful vampire in the region, her life is bound to the whims of a master she cannot trust—and a prophecy she cannot unravel. The guardians, sworn to protect her kind, live in silence and servitude. No one will come to save her.

No one except Theo.

But Theo is no savior. He’s a vampire bound to Alain by chains more cruel than blood—his power held hostage in a vial he may never reclaim. Assigned to guard Aurelia, he is both prisoner and warden…and the only one who makes her feel safe.

As Aurelia fights to understand the truth buried in ancient scrolls and divine warnings, Theo is forced to choose between survival and rebellion, between protecting Aurelia and breaking the curse that has chained him for centuries.

They both want freedom, but Aurelia doesn’t know who he’s fighting for—her, the prophecy, or himself.

And the person Aurelia chooses to trust?

May be the one who breaks her.

This book dives deeper into the world first introduced in the previous installment, finally showing how Theo and Aurelia met and answering some of those lingering questions from book one.But there's still some mystery left to uncover. It definitely feels like it's setting up to become a series, which could go either way depending on how the story develops.

While this book felt more eventful and layered than the first, it didn't completely pull me in. The pacing wavered at times, and I found my mind wandering in places, especially when trying to connect threads back to the first book. I think the author has not yet found her voice, which can make the flow feel a bit uneven.

That said, the vampire and guardian lore was interesting enough to keep me reading and hopeful for what comes next. I'd call it a solid 4 star read. I just wanted a little more spark to fully hold my attention. Will I read the next one if it comes out? Probably, if only to see where this fascinating world goes next.

Doesnt answer all the questions from book 1
