Summary

Introducing Geralt the Witcher - revered and hated - who holds the line against the monsters plaguing humanity in the best-selling series that inspired the Witcher video games and a major Netflix show.

Geralt the Witcher has fought monsters and demons across the land, but even he may not be prepared for what is happening to his world. The kings and armies are manoeuvring for position, each fearing invasion from across the river, each fearing their neighbours more. Intrigue, dissent and rebellion are on all sides.

The Elves and other non-humans are still suffering under decades of repression, and growing numbers join the commando units hidden deep in the forest, striking at will and then dissolving into the trees. The Magicians are fighting amongst themselves, some in the pay of the kings, some sympathetic to the elves.

And against this backdrop of fear and contempt Geralt and his lover Yennefer must protect Ciri, orphaned heir and sought by all sides. For the prophecy rests on her, and whether she lives or dies she has the power to save the world - or perhaps end it.

Brilliant and Entertaining

I think the story is excellent and the narration is incredibly well done. I can't wait to read the next one and find out what happens.

4.5

I love the world of the witcher. The intrigue and conflict of the story is very gripping and each character is fascinating to follow.
I'm loving to see Ciri develop as well as all of the drama with the sorcerers. Also, little horse is adorable.

Excellent audiobook

Stories about the Witcher are very close to my heart as I read them in original years ago. Sapkowski has an incredible ability to twist and turn the traditional tales and legends in order to provide very charming, emotionally engaging, full of cheeky humour and compelling stories.

I was curious whether the witty charm of these stories can be translated into English and the books can still be as absorbing as the Polish language ones. I was pleasantly surprised that Audible has the full set of the Witcher saga audiobooks, so I purchased and was not disappointed!

I think the job of a narrator is tremendously important in such fantasy story because of the abundance of characters in it . Peter Kenny did an exquisite job! I thoroughly enjoyed every second of this book. The characters were very strong and distinct and were portrayed with great deal of attention from the narrator (which means a lot to a reader who knows the characters well).

I would recommend this audiobook (and others in the Witcher saga) to all the readers/listeners who love fantasy, especially to those who don't yet know Andrzej Sapkowski, and these who know him well but read the books in his mother tongue - they will not be disappointed!

Amazing! Brilliant! Can’t recommend it enough. Much better than the Netflix series (which is also very good!)

4/5

Favourite Part: Ciri vs Wyvern. That random rich boy is drowning in women now thanks to Ciri.

Least favourite Part: Nilfgaardian nobles gossiping before Emhyr enters. it is hard to make unnamed characters talking about miscellaneous things / politics very interesting. Not too bad though.

Great start, weaker ending, awesome performance.

Brilliant stuff in this instalment - loads of intrigue, action and adventure. Falters a bit towards the end but the performance, as worth the others in the series is brill and kept me listening.

The Witcher and and Peter Kenny never disappoint.

Loved this book and the series in general. Peter Kenny is a master of the art of narration.

An obvious improvement over the last one!

Narration 7/10
When it concerns the narration I'll just post what I posted on the previous book's review since its exactly the same:
"Even though the narration is actually pretty good I think I've been spoiled by the voices in the games and the new Netflix series where especially Gerald sounds really good, so anything else can sound subpar compared to that. Other than that there is a hint of an accent throughout, not a heavy one but it is there and it lacks a bit of excitement. However, those minor flaws outside it's a pretty good narration and I did enjoy it.
The biggest flaw of the narration however is the fact that it is recorded at a really low voice. It's as if the narrator was sitting 5 meters away from the microphone. In order to be able to listen to it when I normally have my headphones set to 50% for other audiobooks, I had to pump them up to 80-90% for this and it was hard to listen to at places with a lot of background noise like the gym even when set to 100%."

Story 9/10
Well, where the last book was a bit slow this is actually more fast paced from the get go and it was one of the fastest listens for me. Things don't get dull at any moment, there is always something going on and you just want to keep listening and find out what is going to happen. Same as the last one, it's a pretty good and well written story and considering it's a translated book from a different language it doesn't seem so, meaning that the translating is actually really good.
The story this time around focuses a lot more on Ciri, her travel with Yennefer, her wizard training on the way to Aretuza and more insight to her story. Geralt's interactions with Dijkstra are also a strong point of the book.

Overall this was really good, I enjoyed it more than the previous book, and I moved straight to the next one in the series after finishing it. Every fan of the Witcher games or series will actually like this in my opinion, or any fantasy fan as a matter of fact. I just hope the next book keeps up the pace.
