Summary

Volume 10 covers the years 1837 to 1901: the Victorian Age. Entertaining history

This the last instalment of this BBC history series going from the roman invasion to the dawn of the 20th century. The series is informative and entertaining. Anna Massey is great as the narrator and makes it sound like a conversation.

Great way to fill gap in my knowledge

Although I've lived in the UK for over 25 years, I find I have major gaps in my knowledge of British history. This subject wasn't part of the curriculum when I was growing up in the Netherlands. The Sceptred Isle series is the perfect education on long car journey's. I recently had to drive to Paris and back and during the journey, I covered 60 years of history! I would recommend this to anybody who finds themselves wondering about when and where certain events happened.

Good introduction to British History

I got the Sceptred Isle histories in one of Audible's sales as I remember enjoying it very much when it was first broadcast on the BBC. They are an excellent introduction to the UK's history, and done in a style which keeps your interest. The only caveat I would make is that they are still very mcuh a radio programme and I think it would be quite difficult to listen to them one after the other. I listened to them two episodes (ie two 15 min episodes) at a when I was cooking in the evening and that worked perfectly for me.

If you enjoy the recording, try Winston Churchill's history fo the english speaking peoples - also on audible - which are much quoted in the sceptred isle.

Delightful!

Very well done history with dramatized vignettes of reading. I'll look for more from this series.
