Summary

Kamran’s ex broke his heart, tricked him into aiding a bank robbery, and now he wants him to do one last job. There’s only one way to say no: Seek the protective custody of the biggest, grumpiest FBI agent ever. And pretend to be his boyfriend for a weeklong family reunion in their giant mansion. Wait, what?

Agent Lee Marshall is notoriously all work and no play. Letting a flirty, hot-as-sin playboy like Kamran get under his skin is not an option. He has to protect him, not hook up with him. But pretending they’re an item for a week? That couldn’t hurt....

Kamran swore he’d never love again, but Lee will do anything to keep him out of harm’s way. Maybe there’s a teddy bear heart under the hunky FBI agent’s gruff exterior, and Kamran is the only one who can tease it out. What started out fake becomes all too real, but when Kamran’s past catches up to him, Lee must risk everything to save him.

Book six of Pine Cove. Thin Ice is a steamy stand-alone MM romance novel with a guaranteed HEA and absolutely no cliff-hanger.

WOW!

This is one of my favorite books ever, and I enjoyed the captivating plot and endearing characters a lot. Mr Russo did a wonderful job with Kamran and Lee's voices, from the self-deprecating thoughts of Kamran to Lee's sweetness and protectiveness ensuring my heart bled and healed minute after minute of his beautiful narration. This is another heartfelt story in this series, with a captivating plot, some angst, action and suspense but with a beautiful ending. A perfect love story amazingly performed! Just WOW!

FBI agent and bodyguard

This is apparently the last book in Pine Cove and it revolves around everyone's favourite 'no strings, no repeats' Uber/film driver, Kamran. His past has been a secret up til now and he's a bit of a loner, despite being friends with the gang of Coals and their partners. But that past is back to haunt him and lands him in the lap of a hunky FBI agent. Putting to one side the insta love and playing fast and loose with FBI processes it was an enjoyable read.
The narrator is one I can always rely on and he did a great job here.

* opposites attract
* fake boyfriend
* FBI agent/witness
* instalove
* tart with a heart
* workaholic just wants to be loved

Fake relationship fun

Great characters, interesting storyline, just the right amount of action to keep the story moving while still serving to enhance the romance.
Emotions grew fast, but forced proximity and heightened emotional situations made it still feel natural. Fun read, good narration, love the found family that Cameron made for himself.

Kept me hooked!

Such a fast paced, thrill filled story. With Kamran's past coming back to haunt him he has to face it and fight it to survive and realised he's worth fighting for.
I love Kamran, there are so many layers to him that he doesn't let people see for fear of hurt or abandonment. I just wanted to give him a big hug. I loved that his friends, Lee and the best members of Lee's family helped make Kamran welcome, loved and whole. I loved this story and series and would highly recommend both the author and the narrator. Such a great combo!!!

Wonderful ending

Finally Kamren's story.
He's been consistently on the fringes, getting mixed up here and there with previous characters.
His past is reaching out and Lee is the FBI agent looking for Kamren's ex.
The initial animosity between them leads to fiery sparks.
Kamren doesn't believe he's good enough for a relationship and Lee has to work very hard to convince him otherwise.

Brilliant end to this enjoyable series

I have loved the Pine Cove series with the vast array of characters that we've met and come to love, many different tropes written and all with a HEA. I'm so glad that Kamran has finally gotten his and Lee is a great match for him.
Though they are opposites in pretty much every way, they work so well together. First as FBI agent Lee Marshall needs help from Kamran Amir with an ongoing case but then Kamran is in need of protection from Lee from the very man that Lee is looking for. As he's supposed to be at his family's nearby home for a vacation, Kamran tags along and plays the boyfriend role, very well and entertaining, whilst also being kept safe. Of course, their attraction to each other stops it from being purely business and things get very interesting between them when they finally give in.
I love this story. It's based only on a week or so time line but nothing feels rushed. All of the drama and action of the plot plays along perfectly while the relationship that develops between the MC's slowly builds up in the time that they're together at Lee's family home (read mansion). There are both good and bad family members, my favourite being Gamma who may be the eldest but now doesn't give a damn happily giving her opinion and catching up on Drag Race. Kamran is more than happy to stand up for and defend Lee but when it comes to himself, believes the worst and Lee is the perfect man to show him that he's worth so much more. Karman's bad history with his family, his ex and watching all of his friends fall in love has left him thinking he's only worth hookups whereas Lee has talked himself into believing that he needs his job and promised promotion to be worth anything but Kamran shows him and makes him believe in why its better to have a good work/life balance.
These two together tug on my heartstrings as they first pull against each other but are soon fighting to stay close together. This is definitely a romance with a dash of drama as Karman's ex/Lee's suspect doesn't stay hidden forever, soon coming out of the woodwork to get what he wants.
This is such a wonderful series to read and Thin Ice is fabulous way to finish it off. Everyone involved has got their HEA and the group is a perfect example of found family and the friendships and community that come to mean to much.
Nick has done an amazing job narrating this series and really brings emotion and personalities to life throughout.

Plunging In Head First

Thin Ice is the sixth book in the Pine Cove series. It can be read easily read as a standalone, but other characters from previous books do make a small appearance. The first thing to know is that I really enjoyed this book. The characters were fun and I enjoyed how intense Kamran and Lee’s relationship became. I know not everyone enjoys instalove, but it’s something I really like when it is done right, and H.J. Welch did it right for this book. I loved how Lee flirted with the “Daddy” role and how easily it worked for his and Kameron’s relationship. I would love a short story or second epilogue where that dynamic was more explored between the two men.

The second thing to know is that whole plot is rooted in Hollywood fantasy – none of it is realistic nor plausible. At first I thought this was going to bother me a lot more than it actually did. What I like was that H.J. Welch created the rules for alternate universe version of the FBI and just stuck to them consistently. That consistency made it easy for me to accept that in this Pine Cove universe this is how the FBI functions, and I was able to just shrug and go with the flow. I suggest that readers who get hung up on needing realistic details might want to avoid this book, but if don’t mind your fiction taking a lot of liberties, then I definitely recommend this book.

Great story and fantastic narration

Thin Ice is my first book from the Pine Cove series, which can also be read as a standalone. In fact, it was my first book by author JH Welch, which I will keep in mind. I totally enjoyed her wonderful writing style. This is easy-going and you are quite quickly in the story.

Kamran hasn't really had it easy in his life, but things threaten to escalate when the FBI suddenly shows up in the form of Agent Lee Marshal. For this calls Kamran's criminal ex-boyfriend on the scene and when Kamran's apartment is vandalized, he gets scared. So where to go? Agent Lee is the best address. Too bad that he is about to go on vacation. So Lee passes Kamran off as his current boyfriend and takes him to visit his family.

I really liked the two very different characters. Kamran is very likable and I often felt for him. Lee is hot and has his heart in the right place. However, his family is not thrilled with his new boyfriend and some confrontations ensue.
I really enjoyed the development of the fake boyfriend relationship. The differences between the two couldn't be greater, as Lee comes from a rich background while Kamran has been struggling on his own for a long time. Kamran absolutely doesn't let it get him down, though. Witnessing the family dynamics of the Marshals was just delightful.

I absolutely loved Thin Ice. The story was entertaining, romantic and exciting. The protagonists are believable and I had to grin at so many points. The story captivated me from the beginning and Thin Ice will certainly not be my last book in this series.

Nick J. Russo did a fantastic job. The narrator reads the different protagonists with a clear and deep voice and you always know who is speaking. He was a pleasure to listen to and has a talent for expressing the emotions of the protagonists, bringing the story to life.
Absolutely recommended!

'Fake' boyfriends Kam and Lee heat up Pine Cove!

Kamran’s story was worth the wait. By turns an Uber driver and a stunt driver in previous Pine Cove stories, his past with a shady ex-boyfriend comes back to haunt him, and he needs the protection of FBI Agent Lee Marshall, who is not immune to Kam’s charms. Opposites attract but also threaten to repel, as hookup-minded Kam and relationship-oriented Lee don’t see eye to eye. I have loved every return visit to Pine Cove, and this story was no exception. The pairing of Kam and Lee is genius, in this mix of action and relationship farce. The heat level is high, and the feels are not lacking, and as always in Pine Cove, the HEA is guaranteed. Nick J Russo's performance is spot on and brings these characters to life in the best way.
