Lovely and grounding and helpful

I have just finished this book and I am happy, and moved, and inspired by it.

The book is broken down into separate talks, each of which is fairly short, say 25 minutes, but each one on its own contains enough to encourage contemplation and thought. I listened to them one at a time and found that each was a good separately (they are very well judged, enough for a sitting), but also that, over the days, they worked well together as a series.

They are prayerful, or encourage a certain sort of prayer. I stopped to note things in every talk (little insights or quotes) and often replayed little bits to benefit from them a second time. I set aside quiet time to sit and listen to them and found this very helpful: they are not difficult to follow at all but do require (and repay!) full attention. I think I would have struggled to do something else while listening.

I quickly got used to Professor Egan's voice, and style. He is warm and good company, and has a lovely, reassuring, gentle authority. His focus always remains on the subject, and not on himself, and his sincerity and love of Terese, and of God, come through wonderfully.

I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting but perhaps this was a little different to what I expected. He puts Terese into context very well, and, in doing so, there is much in here that perhaps is not Terese herself, but rather helps you understand her and appreciate her.

And he uses her to get to God, and has helped me to use Terese's wisdom to direct myself more towards God.
