About this listen

London 1888, a most murderous year. The Metropolitan Police, reeling after a determined summer bombing campaign by Irish revolutionaries, is on the verge of breaking point come the Autumn by an illusive serial killer calling themselves "Jack the Ripper".

Detective Inspector Frederick Abberline of Great Scotland Yard, is recalled to the mean streets of H (Whitechapel) Division in the hope that he can snare this beast stalking the streets and alleyways of Whitechapel.

In his determined pursuit of the Ripper, both he and his deputy, Detective Sergeant George Godley unknowingly find themselves embroiled in an Anglo-American conspiracy with far reaching political consequences.

Didn't know what to expect when I ordered this book but I hugely enjoyed it, a very unusual take on the Victorian Whitechapel Murders. The author's description of the characters was excellent and also the surrounding areas, you could actually visualise them. I must also say how good the narrator was, very convincing.

A brilliant crime mystery by Rob Lofthouse. Incredible characterisations which draw you into the story, not letting go until the stunning, dramatic end. Highly recommended.
