About this listen

THEODORE BOONE'S best friend April has disappeared in the middle of the night.

The only suspect is an escaped convict, and he won't give them any answers.

Thirteen-year-old Theo - the son of two lawyers - knows the criminal justice system. Terrified that he'll never see April again, he begins his own investigation.
But as the days drag on with no new leads, Theo starts to think the police are chasing the wrong person. Can he hunt down the truth and find his friend - or is it really too late?

Critic reviews

Praise for THEODORE BOONE:

Not since Nancy Drew has a nosy, crime-obsessed kid been so hard to resist.
Gripping... I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery. I think everyone will be enthralled by Theodore Boone.
There's a new kid on the young fiction block, and this one really does have serious powers: Theodore Boone, half-boy, half-lawyer... fans will be pleased to know there will be more of Theo's adventures to come.
If you aspire to turn your children into lawyers who will keep you in your old age, John Grisham's Theodore Boone, his first novel for young people, might be for you.
Contemporary lit for young readers has its icons: Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Artemis Fowl. Make way for the new kid on the block.
Praise for John Grisham:

A master of his craft.

A great book for the whole family to listen.

My 9 year old loved listening to this with us.

Great for the whole family

I persevered with this to the end as I did want to find out what happened to the missing girl. I found the story quite childish and the portrayal of teenage detective would have appealed to me 35 years ago!! Perhaps more serious than the Famous Five which I did enjoy in my teenage years.
I didn't find the story very gripping and the whole courtroom parts were rather boring...the animal court could have been omitted as I didn't see its relevance to the overall story.
Hoping my next choices will be more to my taste.
It was well narrated with good expression.

More appealing to older teenagers

I have always enjoyed John Grisham books and thought I would give Theadore Boone a try. It is about a young boy who wants to be a lawyer when he is older. His investigation is typical of a John Grisham book which are always most enjoyable and you do not want to stop listening.

Most Enjoyable

I made the mistake in thinking that this would be a full-length book as it is "unabridged" and the many John Grisham books I've so far listened to (and enjoyed) are all a lengthy listen. However, this book is a pared-down, simple story not a bit like the author's usual intricately plotted page-turners. I was even more disappointed because the narrator read the book at break-neck speed with little attempt give the characters different voices. If you're a fan of this author I'd recommend that you give this book a miss.

Not a typical Grisham book
