For LAPD homicide cop Harry Bosch - hero, maverick, nighthawk - the body in the drainpipe at Mulholland Dam is more than another anonymous statistic. This one is personal. Three stories, brought together in one edition, from 'crime-writing genius' Michael Connelly. In the title story, a fatal accident on Mulholland Drive turns out to be part of an ingenious plot - but is it too ingenious? In Two Bagger, a dedicated cop working for the Gang Intelligence Unit finally gets the payoff he's worked so hard for - but it's not what he's expecting. Death is my beat. Those words, spoken by the narrator and hero of The Poet, Jack McEvoy, could also apply to Michael Connelly. Time and time again in these riveting pieces, we make the connection between Connelly the crime reporter and Connelly the novelist: On the day I arrived in Los Angeles I sat in the newspaper editor's office being interviewed for a job on the crime beat.

Summary
Only Harry Bosch can uncover LA's darkest secrets in this new gripping thriller from global best seller Michael Connelly. Read by Titus Welliver, star of Bosch.
'What do you want me to do?' Bosch asked again.
'I want you to find someone for me,' Vance said. 'Someone who might not have ever existed.'
Harry Bosch is working as a part-time detective in the town of San Fernando outside of Los Angeles when he gets the invitation to meet with the ageing aviation billionaire Whitney Vance. When he was 18, Vance had a relationship with a Mexican girl called Vibiana Duarte, but soon after becoming pregnant she disappeared.
Now, as he reaches the end of his life, Vance wants to know what happened to Vibiana and whether there is an heir to his vast fortune. And Bosch is the only person he trusts to undertake the assignment.
Harry's aware that with such sums of money involved, this could be a dangerous undertaking - not just for himself but for the person he's looking for - but as he begins to uncover Vibiana's tragic story and finds uncanny links to his own past, he knows he cannot rest until he finds the truth.

Great book and performance
Michael Connelly delivers again: A great, engaging story with two different cases that will keep listeners on edge.
Titus Welliver delivers a great performance again, bringing the different characters to life. Fans of Bosch or just crime stories in general should give this a listen.

Continuing series with consistent quality
A new Harry Bosch book is always a welcome bit of news to me and the trend of having Titus Welliver from the Amazon TV adaptation narrate the audio books only enhances that feeling of anticipation. This entry delivers on that promise and was a welcome addition to the series. Welliver's subtle McConaghey impression for the Mickey Haller character drew some smiles from me too.

Nice book and story
My first try on the character and although it goes the retired cop cliché, it is well written and also well narrated. I felt sorry when it ended because I wanted to hear more. I guess I have to get another one to keep the Harry momentum going.

An excellent read!
Fans will love this book, and it sets things up for many more to come.
The only minus is that while Titus does a good job of reading it, his style is not up to the standard of previous regular readers. It's unfortunate that he now seems to be the only choice.
