I should have realized this was mostly about how t
I learned...
-The type of microphone recommended. I had it.
-Not to do a lot of Dragon's speaking exercises because it doesn't train Dragon for me. I wasn't.
-Practice with my phone apps that do voice to text. (Have been for years.)
-Practice until I get better.
-The experience of the author and his compelling reason for beginning to investigate dragon.
I haven't yet investigated the bonus material.
After I do that I may change my rating, but for now I am not sure that this had anything to do with training Dragon software for writers specifically.

2 hours of Windows or Mac 35 min of good info
The Windows or Mac debate is the majority of the book. I was hoping that there would be 2.5 hours of valuable information about how to set up and train the finer points of this rich soft wear suite. Alas, the small amount of useful information could be boiled down to a page or two of bullet points one for windows one for Mac. I thought this would help a lot but it mostly wasted my time.
in short use, the windows version get an up to date computer with max ram and a solid-state hi-speed hard drive to limit lag and data loss, get a good mike only load your own writing and emails into the trainer and don't use the pre-written scripts they are not your own personal words. there are a couple more things but that is the bulk of the text. the book is well read the story would be engaging if it were not so short on helpful info!

Exactly what I wanted to know
I've had two semi-disappointing runs at using dragon, but I can see how amazing it could be if I had it set up correctly. I realized my computer was too slow, frustrating to use, yet buzzed out 20,000 words of a potential book in a morning of talking. Now I know what hardware I need to get the program to work right, and have been given ideas for transcription options.
