There are stacks upon stacks of self-help books that will promise you love, happiness, and a fabulous life. But how can you pinpoint the exact behaviors that cause you to be miserable in the first place? Sometimes when we're depressed, or just sad or unhappy, our instincts tell us to do the opposite of what we should - such as focusing on the negative, dwelling on what we can't change, isolating ourselves from friends and loved ones, eating junk food, or overindulging in alcohol. Sound familiar?

Do you constantly feel chased for something? Do you feel frustrated or sad because you are not “good enough”? Have you experienced night terrors or panic attacks? Then, it’s time to consider revising and take control of your anxiety issues before it’s too late. With the help of this book, you will recognize the first signs of anxiety as well as when the anxiety partners with other mental distortions or disorders like stress or depression.
Summary
Are you truly in danger or has your brain simply "tricked" you into thinking you are? In The Worry Trick, psychologist and anxiety expert David Carbonell shows how anxiety hijacks the brain and offers effective techniques to help you break the cycle of worry, once and for all.
Anxiety is a powerful force. It makes us question ourselves and our decisions, causes us to worry about the future, and fills our days with dread and emotional turbulence. Based in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), this audiobook is designed to help you break the cycle of worry.
Worry convinces us there's danger, and then tricks us into getting into fight, flight, or freeze mode - even when there is no danger. The techniques in this audiobook, rather than encouraging you to avoid or try to resist anxiety, show you how to see the trick that underlies your anxious thoughts, and how avoidance can backfire and make anxiety worse.
If you're ready to start observing your anxious feelings with distance and clarity - rather than getting tricked once again - this audiobook will show you how.

Unhelpful
Unhelpful. Actually made me worry more! The book provides an outline of various techniques to minimise worrying, but the author’s obvious total lack of personal experience in this area meant the book was written with a complete lack of empathy & understanding. I would recommend that anyone suffering from anxiety steer well clear of this book!

great book
the book provides good techniques to combat obsessive and persistent worrying using a counterintuitive approach. Like many I was struggling so much with fighting thoughts in my head and attempting to reassure myself, this ultimately did not serve me well and I felt a new approach was needed. I can say this book has helped me so much, it will assist you to sit with worry without trying to hide it or argue with it. Give it a go I say

The best audio books are narrated by their author and as a consequence are read naturally and with passion. This one sounds like it's narrated by the factual audio sub title guy on your TV. I gave up after 3 minutes of being talked to like a child.

The Worry Trick is the Worry Cure
I have read many books on anxiety, worry, CBT, REBT, and both the Worry Trick and the Worry Cure. In my view I have found that CBT has some flaws where a person disputes thoughts, but how do you dispute irrational thoughts if you are in a mental place of being irrational (worries and anxieties). I was please do hear the author state this very similar concern with CBT.
The information in this book about how worries start, how to "change your relationship" with worry, how to use counter intuitive approaches has been a big help to me. I would say out of decades of reading and working through various anxiety issues this book has had the most positive impact on my thinking and approach to worry. I have so many notes in this audible book that I wrote many down for a daily a guide and bought the printed book. This book is pure gold. I had it to two weeks and on my second listen.

Finally a realistic book on worry and anxiety!
Excellently done! I was worried (of course) that the audio version would be dry but it's great! I'm listening and nodding in agreement with what he's saying. Even laughing at times. And I wondered why Cognitive Restructuring didn't always work for me. He's a realist and lays it out and explains why this can backfire for some people! And how to know! Wealth of information. Feeling understood for the first time in a long time while listening to him. I am understanding myself better. Knowledge is power. There is no cure-all but finally a therapist who gets real about those with serious anxiety/worry. Because we are different than those with only occasional worry. It's a whole different animal that's often misunderstood even by professionals. Excellent book, easy to listen to, highly recommend it to those that deal with worry or anxiety or over thinking. Or if you have a loved one that struggles with it. This will help you understand them much better and why they can't just stop worrying!

Solid perspective on worry
This audio book covered, from a very grounded and practical perspective, some of the root causes and techniques to manage worry and anxiety. I enjoyed the practical advice and clear vision towards the thinking patterns that trigger and elevate anxious thinking.
Having read several books on the subject, I would say I found little 'new' concepts, however the author's plain English and practical approach was quite enlightening.
