On the one hand, John Gwynne's Wolves of War is a thrilling tale of battles large and small with his trademark authenticity. Blood is shed, axes are swung, charges are made against the odds. On the other hand, it's the story of a loving family taking on life's challenges, their struggles enriched and complicated by the daughter, Halia, who has significant disabilities and hidden talents. The narrative is at turns tender, violent, imaginative, and exciting. And sometimes all of these things at once. If you've enjoyed Gwynne's other works, you're going to love this one. If you've not read him before, this book is a great place to start

The Wolves of War is such a good read that I couldn't put it down. It's filled with creatures and gods from Eastern European folktales and mythology, but with John's unique twist, as well as the brave-hearted characters we have always loved in Gwynne's work. Raise your seax and shield . . . Gwynne has done it again. Reader beware: you will be captivated . . . head and heart!
