About this listen

NOW AN AWARD-WINNING MOTION PICTURE DIRECTED BY MARTIN SCORSESE, STARRING LEONARDO DICAPRIO, MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY AND JONAH HILL.

'What separates Jordan's story from others like it, is the brutal honesty.' - Leonardo DiCaprio

By day he made thousands of dollars a minute. By night he spent it as fast as he could, on drugs, sex, and international globe-trotting. From the binge that sunk a 170-foot motor yacht, crashed a Gulfstream jet, and ran up a $700,000 hotel tab, to the wife and kids who waited for him for at home, and the fast-talking, hard-partying young stockbrokers who called him king and did his bidding, here, in his own inimitable words, is the story of the ill-fated genius they called...

THE WOLF OF WALL STREET

In the 1990s Jordan Belfort, former kingpin of the notorious investment firm Stratton Oakmont, became one of the most infamous names in American finance: a brilliant, conniving stock-chopper who led his merry mob on a wild ride out of the canyons of Wall Street and into a massive office on Long Island. In this astounding and hilarious tell-all autobiography, Belfort narrates a story of greed, power, and excess no one could invent - the story of an ordinary guy who went from hustling Italian ices at sixteen to making hundreds of millions. Until it all came crashing down.

Loved this book I certainly fills in some of the blanks left by the movie.
If you loved the film you'll live this book.
Only give a 4 for story as it does go.flat in some places and drones on a bit on some subjects.

Filling in the missing pieces of the puzzle.

Being a massive fan of the movie, I felt it was only appropriate for me to buy this audiobook and give it a listen. Thankfully it didn't disappoint, and although the book was very similar to the movie in some ways, it was completely different in others. The story is a very interesting one - that's with or without watching the film beforehand - as it's great to learn the ups and downs of this extraordinarily interesting man's life. I haven't rated the performance of the voice actor very highly for one simple reason - his voice for the Duchess. During some of the scenes (especially the sexually related ones), I found myself almost pausing from the sheer awkwardness of him trying to put on a sexy woman's voice. It got a bit much. However, he generally played men's voices very well.

Overall, I would definitely recommend giving this a listen. It's a very good book and gives a true insight into "the life of the rich and dysfunctional". At the very least it will put you in awe of how some people in the world live. But having so much power and money definitely doesn't come without it's problems.

Great Story

What made the experience of listening to The Wolf of Wall Street the most enjoyable?

Definitely the fact that the author read it. Jordan was great to listen too and read with an enthusiasm that only an author can normally bring. I really felt I was there experiencing it all.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Wolf of Wall Street?

I loved the night he crashed his car after taking ludes!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes definitely I couldn't stop!!

Any additional comments?

Definitely preferred this to the film and would recommend this as great holiday listening. It's not a work of high literature but nor is it trying to be. For what it is, it's an excellent and thoroughly enjoyable if not shocking ride!!

What a treat to hear the author read his own book
