Summary

From the best-selling author of How to Train Your Dragon comes an exciting high-adventure series - set in an ancient, magical time full of Wizards, Warriors, Giants and Sprites.

This was once the story of a young boy Wizard and a young girl Warrior who had been taught since birth to hate each other like poison.

But now, the boy Wizard and girl Warrior have been brought together in the Badwoods, and they have witnessed the shocking consequences of the Stone That Takes Away Magic. They will need to cast aside their differences once more - for an Evil Spell has broken free.

It's up to Xar and Wish to find the ingredients. But it means entering the Druids Castle unannounced....

Perfect for boys and girls who love fantasy adventure.

I didn’t want the story to end!

Such a brilliant second story following Wish and Xar’s adventures.

Original, unpredictable storyline, superbly narrated and such brilliant characters.

Don’t think of this as a teenagers’ book. It has all the classic elements to stand the test of time, and was hugely enjoyed by me, an adult!

I want David Tennant !!! The story is awfully good too. :-)
This is the second in the series , listen to number one first so that you know where the dancing, iron spoon came from.

BEST BOOK ALL YEAR!

This book was better than the first book! (if that is even possible)
I listened to the Audible read by David Tennant(such a good reader) and followed along with book so I could have the pictures: honestly best of both worlds 😍😍 The way this book had whimsical fun and darker plot points woven into a delightfully funny narrative was pure joy.

Also SPOILERS(!) the way it managed to explored Encanzo and Sychorax' past and then gently brush it into the present, succeeding in the almost impossible task of allowing a middle grade reader to sympathise with and understand parents. They see adults as not just pawns in their little world, but people who have lives, and pasts, who have complicated journeys that they too must make. Managing to humanise adults in the eyes of children, and make them realise that these adults are much closer in mind to them than they thought. Both Xar and Wish (and Bodkin) see this, but the lense is opened out wider than that to force the reader to realise this as well. Perfectly done 👌

Weird point I know. But as a young adult myself, I feel a Wishing feeling that it had been in more of the books we read. There's a need to reeducate us youth as to what it means to have time happen to you, and how much it matters much less and much more than you think.

Another great performance by David Tennant.

Love all his different voices, and this book made me laugh and smile again. Next one in this series please...
