Ghosts don't exist in our world of today. Life is too pragmatic, too consuming, too busy for past lives to linger on longer than their allotted time, or so Halcyon had believed, until she received a letter from a lawyer claiming that her mother, whom she had thought long dead, had actually been living in another part of the country since Halcyon's early childhood. She had only recently passed away, leaving Halcyon heir to an unexpected fortune and an estate on an isolated island in the middle of the Great Lakes.

Summary
There was a time when the woods near Duva ate girls - or so the story goes. But it's just possible that the danger may be a little bit closer to home. This story is a companion folk tale to Leigh Bardugo's debut novel, Shadow and Bone.

A short but enthralling folk tale of the Grisha
THE WITCH OF DUVA
Author: Leigh Bardugo
Type of Book: Audiobook - Unabridged
Narrator: Lauren Fortgang
Length: 52 minutes
Genre: Fantasy
Release Date: August 19, 2014
Publisher: Audible Studios
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
* I purchased this short audiobook from www.audible.com
It is rare that I find an author that I enjoy enough to seek out all of their other published works. Leigh Bardugo is just such an author.
Her debut novel, entitled "SHADOW AND BONE" was the first book in the Grisha Trilogy.
This is a short folk tale that is the companion to SHADOW AND BONE. Despite it's short length it is an entertaining tale.
They say that girls should avoid the woods around Duva. They say that the woods eat girls who wander there. Is there a monster or a witch in the woods? You'll be surprised and delighted to find out who is the culprit.
The narrator is the same one used in the Grisha trilogy which offers the listener a sense of continuity and she does a wonderful job.
I rate both the narration and the story as 5 out of 5 stars.

Superbly written, superbly narrated dark fairy tale
In a terrible famine, on a bitter winter, a widowed father takes a cruel new wife who forces his daughter to brave the dangerous forest, where she comes upon a witch's cottage. Not all is as it seems. This marvelous Audible narration is just under one hour, but packs a wallop. Every word counts in Bardugo's evocation of a kind of Slavic Otherworld, where the heroine must learn--at some cost--to distinguish the real monsters from the make-believe. Lauren Fortgang effortlessly voices the sharply drawn characters, the hypnotic narrative. I'll make sure to get all of these stories.

Thrills & Chills Await You
This is thrillingly chilling! This twisty tale will lure you in with it's gore and darkly dangerous atmosphere. The end was mind bending. No one sets the stage and introduces the players quite like Leigh Bardugo. This is a masterpiece that will stay with you. There were a few times when I knew what was coming, only to have everything flipped upside down.
