Summary

There was a time when the woods near Duva ate girls - or so the story goes. But it's just possible that the danger may be a little bit closer to home. This story is a companion folk tale to Leigh Bardugo's debut novel, Shadow and Bone.

A short but enthralling folk tale of the Grisha

THE WITCH OF DUVA

Author: Leigh Bardugo

Type of Book: Audiobook - Unabridged

Narrator: Lauren Fortgang

Length: 52 minutes

Genre: Fantasy

Release Date: August 19, 2014

Publisher: Audible Studios

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

* I purchased this short audiobook from www.audible.com

It is rare that I find an author that I enjoy enough to seek out all of their other published works. Leigh Bardugo is just such an author.

Her debut novel, entitled "SHADOW AND BONE" was the first book in the Grisha Trilogy.

This is a short folk tale that is the companion to SHADOW AND BONE. Despite it's short length it is an entertaining tale.

They say that girls should avoid the woods around Duva. They say that the woods eat girls who wander there. Is there a monster or a witch in the woods? You'll be surprised and delighted to find out who is the culprit.

The narrator is the same one used in the Grisha trilogy which offers the listener a sense of continuity and she does a wonderful job.

I rate both the narration and the story as 5 out of 5 stars.

Chilling

Comparable to an original Fairy Tale with fear and a lesson. I personally love these types of tales.

A fairy tale thriller.

This feels like something Stephen King would write. That's about the best complement I can give anyone who isn't Stephen King.

I love this story!

I love this clever little fairytale. It is everything that a fairytale should be: beautiful, fanciful, dark and mysterious. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer.

In folk tale fashion

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when choosing this book, but it’s presented in true folk lore- ish style. The characters are well represented and the story twist is interesting. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

fantastic narrator, beautiful voice, great writing

I was unsure if I didn't like Leigh Bardugo's writing or if the Alina Starkhov story just didn't appeal to me. This book confirms that her writing does appeal to me, but Alina was not a relatable character. I thought I might like her after reading the backstory of one of the more interesting characters in Ruin and Rising, but this short story (?) Novella (?) Was A+ I don't have a single thing to criticize. The characters are great, the pacing is great, there isn't a bunch of fluff. I read this on audiobook and the narrator was excellent. Nothing but good things here.

This is my first read of Leighs work, and I am plotting how I can go get my hands on a copy of the next part of the story asap!

A monster stalks the night, searching for a tender bite.

A mix of familiar folk tales, turned on their heads. If you are looking for something short and dark, this is the story you’re looking for. Nadia thinks she knows what goes bump in the night, but she is only partly right.

An Enjoyable, Quick Listen

This was a good story and Lauren Fortgang's performance was excellent as always. I needed something to listen to on my commute home and I was out of credits so I purchased this book - I hate to spend money on such short listens, but I would say it's worth it if you like fairy tales and/or have read the author's other works and find yourself wanting more.
