Summary

She can’t stand him. The feeling is mutual. Can they make it through quarantine together?

Quinn Hadley only does one thing as well as he plays hockey—wheeling the ladies. He’s the envy of his teammates. With puck bunnies on speed dial in every city, he never spends a night alone unless it’s by choice. He has a certain type—hot, blond, and easy. So when he meets Sarah Nelson, bagging her is nowhere on his radar. Not only is she a brunette, but her fiery, take-no-prisoners style is a turn-off. Plus, she’s his teammate’s sister and totally off-limits.

But his disabled mother—who’s just been foisted on him—loves Sarah. And not only is his mom methodically ruining his sweet bachelor lifestyle, but she keeps firing every caregiver Quinn hires for her. So when COVID-19 puts everyone on lockdown, Quinn offers Sarah an opportunity she can’t refuse, despite the warning bells clanging in his head.

Sarah Nelson is fleeing a devastating breakup and has nowhere to go but to her brother’s place in Denver. An engineer by training, she needs a job pronto so she can yank herself back up on her own two feet. But COVID-19 stops her dead in her tracks. So when Quinn Hadley offers her a temporary job making stupid money, she has a hard time refusing—despite the fact she has to live under the same roof with a guy who turns her stomach. She’s had too much experience with charmers like him, and Quinn Hadley is the biggest charmer of all. With a track record to prove it. But it’s the other side of Quinn she never expects, and it’s far more lethal than his public persona.

When Mr. Smooth and Ms. Prickly shelter in place together, not even his mansion is big enough to contain the fireworks. These two are sparks colliding with gas: combustible and explosive.

Someone’s bound to get burned.

This series is so good, whether you’re a hockey fan or not.

Okay, I’ll admit it… I’m a huge hockey fan and an even bigger fan of romance. Put them together, and I’m already in love. This entire series stands out among the genre- well-written, smart, funny, and with all of the human complexity of falling in love when you least expect it.

Quinn Hadley is an NHL hockey player, taking in one-night stands with puck bunnies that come and go with no commitment. He’s also taking care of his disabled mother. He hires Sarah Nelson to be the caregiver for his mother. Sarah is an engineer, but she’s healing from a failed relationship and needs to work to get her life back on track. Quinn and Sarah do not much care for each other… Until COVID forces them all into lockdown. Together.

What they learn is that neither is as stereotypical as they initially seem. When their guards are down, the sparks fly and the chemistry is undeniable.

These books can be enjoyed as stand alone books, but they are interwoven and are best enjoyed in order. I highly recommend this series! The performances are exceptional, and completely do these characters justice.

older woman, younger man equals Hot !!

Brilliant !!
I really loved this story..Book number 4 within the series and I was totally engrossed from the start.
The audiobook of The Winning Score was Amazing.
Narrated by Samantha Brentmoor and Marcio Catalano I loved the way they brought these character to life.I loved the emotions they portrayed and the comedy timing they had was impeccable...I really enjoyed their voices and loved listening to this book.
This is Quinn Hadley's story he is basically a man whore of his team,he is the King of the Puck Bunny hook up.Which later on will bite him in the ass...But he is in a bit of a fix..his disabled mother is staying with him and keeps chasing away her hired help.He is desperate to find someone to take care of his mum.
Sarah Nelson is an architect who is escaping from a bad relationship so goes to stay with her Hockey playing brother Gage and his girlfriend Lily.
Sarah knows Quinn through Gage and she does not like him one bit, they bicker everytime they meet, she is jobless and homeless and then the unexpected happens...Quinn asks Sarah to take care of his mum.
During this time Covid 19 hits the world in a big way and life is suspended..Hockey is cancelled for the forecible future, social distancing, masks and quarantine happens...I thought the Covid thing added to this story was such a smart way to bring these characters together and it is something Everyone can related to.
So if Sarah takes the job she would have to live with Quinn and his mum, which would probaly be a relief to her brother because he is on the couch while she stays with them.
Plus Sarah likes Quinns Mum and they get on great,it just a shame about her son..!!
Sarah takes the job and this sets off a great story with lots of funny hilarious banter between Quinn and Sarah and an abundance of sexual chemistry and tension.
Because as they get to know one another they realise they have more things in common than they thought and that actually they really like eachother.
There is also the added snag in their relationship because they both have exs who won't let go..Sarah's Ex won't take no for an answer and one of Quinn's puck bunnies turns obsessive so this puts a spanner in the works.
I am loving this series and G.K Brady's writing is so thorough and detailed she writes her characters in a way that you can't help but love them.
I became totally lost within this story and found myself laughing when the characters laughed and swooning when Quinn becomes romantic...He is such a charmer He even charmed me as a reader..lol..
Quinn actually changes as the story unfolds from tantrums in the beginning to taking care of his Mum and enjoying it, to realising he didn't want to be a playboy anymore. He falls hard for Sarah..
Its Sarah who has reservations about the relationship they are building ,not trusting it is genuine..She thinks he only wants her because they are quaranteened together and once it is lifted he will go back to his old ways.
The Winning Score is a very enjoyable, funny, sweet and steamy book and I was totally enamoured with it.I adore G.K Brady's storytelling and the Narration is perfect.
I Loved this book.

Exciting

This storyline is gripping. I love their relationship and how it develops. With a great who done it and a couple of ghosts from the past it’s a great book with the added bonus of a brilliant performance.

4.5 Stars! Loving this series!

The Winning Score is the fourth in the series, but can be read as a standalone. It’s just as good and entertaining as the first 3 in the series.

Quinn Hadley is at the height of his career and the envy of his teammates. He’s a womaniser who has a certain type - one that looks and acts nothing like Sarah Nelson. So when they initially meet, she is nowhere on his radar. Not only that, but she is also off-limits being his teammate’s sister. They also can’t stand each other.

When Quinn needs help with taking care of his disabled mother, (with Sarah also needing a job), he recruits her for a temporary position. Things get a little more interesting once lockdown happens (this book is set in 2020 during the pandemic) and she has to move in with him.

This was such a fun read. I loved seeing the growth in Quinn’s personality and character. He went from being a womanising hockey player to loving and being there for Sarah. I was also there for Sarah’s fiery personality. It was also believable seeing them bond during quarantine. Also the book being set during quarantine was an interesting plot point. It was interesting seeing the events that happened during that time period weaved into the story of the book.

This book was entertaining, emotional, and filled with lots of laughs and banter between the characters. Pick this up if you’re looking for a sports/hockey, age-gap (older woman/younger man), opposites attract romance.

Marcio Catalano and Samantha Brentmoor were fantastic narrators. Catalano brought the charm, whilst Brentmoor brought the fiery-ness. They definitely suited the characters they were narrating.

Quinn & Sarah!

Sarah has moved in with her brother Gage. Breaking up with her lying, cheat of a boyfriend, she is looking to start over. And then it hits. Covid-19. Lockdown has the family squashed into a small house, tripping over each other and no privacy. Quinn, one of Gage's teammates gives her an out. His mother who needs assistance at home has taken a liking to Sarah and her dog, and Quinn is offering a job to help out with her, including room and board. She and Quinn have been at odds, after all, he is a confident jock, with a playboy reputation. There is no way she wants to be near him. The offer is just too good to pass up,and our story begins. Quinn is quite the woman, and I love her tenacity. She is strong willed, a joy around Quinn's mom and her heart is in the right place. It's just a matter of getting around the hurt. Quinn is realizing what life is really about. Family and love come to the forefront and it's wonderful to see him evolve. Lastly, GK Brady's look into the life of a woman who at her prime is fighting with a debilitating disease is not only relevant but handled in a way that is compassionate. I loved this thread as it was weaved into the story. Quinn has turned out to be one of my favorites on the team and I can't wait to see who else I will get to meet!

The narration team of Samantha Brentmoor and Marcio Catalano bring a whole other level enhancing this sports romance. Brentmoor is a favorite, and each time she performs, she brings a true feeling to her characters. Sarah is a woman with a lot of emotions going on, and each one is evident and realistic. Catalano adds a bit of sensuality to Quinn's personality with an easy, warm tone and easily transforms him from his playboy ways. This collaboration gave a wonderful performance, hours of entertainment and joy to my ears.

It’s not just about Covid-19

I enjoyed this book and its characters. They are dealing with the beginnings of Covid 19 and the quarantine process and wearing masks etc.. It wasn’t overly done but I didn’t enjoy that part of the book. I didn’t think it would affect me in anyway but it kind of did. I’m not going to lessen my stars b/c it is a personal issue. I did enjoy the other aspects of this book. The narration was great. I definitely recommend this books.

Wonderful Story & Narration🎧A Winning Romance!

I am loving G.K. Brady’s “The Playmakers Series”, a series of hockey romance standalone novels. Characters reappear in each other’s books, so knowing their backstories adds depth and seeing them again is like seeing an old friend. The uniqueness and originality of each book in this series is also a highlight, with storylines tailored to each character’s individuality and circumstance. There is something very special about the characters in this series and one of the reasons why it is so amazing. This fourth book is Playmaker Quinn Hadley, the lady’s man and Sarah Nelson, sister of teammate Gage, from “Gauging the Player”. After breaking up with her boyfriend and leaving her job in Seattle, Sarah moved to Colorado to live with her brother until she found a new job and home. Gage and Lily are in contract to buy a larger house, but they are making the small space work for them all and her dog. Sarah fits right in with Lily and even Paige and she joins them when they go out. She concluded that Quinn Hadley was just like her ex-boyfriend, a player, after witnessing his playing ways off the ice with the puck bunnies. She did not hide her displeasure when she met him. Quinn is taking care of his mother, giving up his condo to move into a bigger space to accommodate her and have enough space to entertain his women and one-night stands. When Gage stopped by Quinn’s house, Sarah and her dog, Archer, tagged along, but stayed outside. And even from outside, Archer sensed something was going on with Quinn’s mom and let her know. His mom also picked up on the tension between her son and Sarah, which gave her an idea. Since Quinn was looking to bring someone in to help with her, she suggested Quinn, but Quinn does not have experience in caregiving. Then Covid happens, and the pandemic, life as they knew it is no more and everything shuts down, including hockey. Gage’s house sale falls through and Sarah’s chance of getting a job in her field and a place to live is not happening anytime soon. With Gage’s daughter allergic to her dog and the tight living arrangement, Sarah takes Quinn up on his job offer to take care of his mom. It was great to watch Sarah and Quinn’s icy relationship thaw and morph into a more friendly territory and then more. And just as the going gets good, Quinn’s player past comes back to haunt him and weird things happen. Sarah’s ex-boyfriend is trying to come back into the picture, but she wants nothing to do with him. There is never a dull moment in this book, the writing and plotting is fantastic, as are the world building and character development. The drama is non-stop, it is angsty at times, emotions run high, and there are some thrilling and suspenseful moments. The romance between Quinn and Sarah is slow burn, but so worth the wait. G.K. Brady, thank you for another fantastic story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Samantha Brentmoor and Marcio Catalano did an amazing job bringing these characters and their story to life. They understood the characters they portrayed and gave each character a voice that fit their persona and was believable in every role they played. Brentmoor nailed it as Sarah, grasping every aspect of her personality, and Catalano did the same for Quinn and was just as amazing. Both were fantastic in covering the secondary characters’ roles too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artists and enjoyable to listen to. Thank you for another wonderful listen.
