About this listen

She can’t stand him. The feeling is mutual. Can they make it through quarantine together?

When it comes to hockey, I'm as good at scoring off the ice as I am on it. With puck bunnies in every city, I’ve got my bachelor life dialed in—no strings, no problem. I’ve got a type: hot, blonde, and easy. So when Sarah Nelson, my teammate’s brunette sister, storms into my life, I’m not interested. She’s feisty, way too serious, and not my kind of fun. But my mom, who’s now living with me and complicating everything, likes her, and COVID-19 just put us all on lockdown.

Sarah’s fresh out of a breakup and staying at her brother’s place, looking for work—fast. When I offer her a temporary job that means living under my roof, she reluctantly agrees. Sure, she’s got me pegged as a player, and I know she can’t stand me. But neither of us sees what’s coming when we’re forced to be around each other 24/7.

We’re oil and fire, and someone’s bound to get burned.

I enjoyed this book and its characters. They are dealing with the beginnings of Covid 19 and the quarantine process and wearing masks etc.. It wasn’t overly done but I didn’t enjoy that part of the book. I didn’t think it would affect me in anyway but it kind of did. I’m not going to lessen my stars b/c it is a personal issue. I did enjoy the other aspects of this book. The narration was great. I definitely recommend this books.

Brilliant dual narration from Marcio Catalano and Samantha Brentmoor

Quinn is a hockey player, who is handsome and he knows how to use his appeal. He never has a problem with the ladies. He needs help to care for his Mum who has early stages of Parkinson's. As his mother is difficult he is having trouble finding her a carer . Sarah is the sister of his best mate on the team and they do not get on. Her own life is not going well as she finds out her but she is out of boyfriend was married. Sarah is really good with Quinn's mum. The two of them keep fighting ,with lockdown slowly Quinn starts to want more with her than fighting.

Sarah has moved in with her brother Gage. Breaking up with her lying, cheat of a boyfriend, she is looking to start over. And then it hits. Covid-19. Lockdown has the family squashed into a small house, tripping over each other and no privacy. Quinn, one of Gage's teammates gives her an out. His mother who needs assistance at home has taken a liking to Sarah and her dog, and Quinn is offering a job to help out with her, including room and board. She and Quinn have been at odds, after all, he is a confident jock, with a playboy reputation. There is no way she wants to be near him. The offer is just too good to pass up,and our story begins. Quinn is quite the woman, and I love her tenacity. She is strong willed, a joy around Quinn's mom and her heart is in the right place. It's just a matter of getting around the hurt. Quinn is realizing what life is really about. Family and love come to the forefront and it's wonderful to see him evolve. Lastly, GK Brady's look into the life of a woman who at her prime is fighting with a debilitating disease is not only relevant but handled in a way that is compassionate. I loved this thread as it was weaved into the story. Quinn has turned out to be one of my favorites on the team and I can't wait to see who else I will get to meet!

The narration team of Samantha Brentmoor and Marcio Catalano bring a whole other level enhancing this sports romance. Brentmoor is a favorite, and each time she performs, she brings a true feeling to her characters. Sarah is a woman with a lot of emotions going on, and each one is evident and realistic. Catalano adds a bit of sensuality to Quinn's personality with an easy, warm tone and easily transforms him from his playboy ways. This collaboration gave a wonderful performance, hours of entertainment and joy to my ears.

I am loving G.K. Brady’s “The Playmakers Series”, a series of hockey romance standalone novels. Characters reappear in each other’s books, so knowing their backstories adds depth and seeing them again is like seeing an old friend. The uniqueness and originality of each book in this series is also a highlight, with storylines tailored to each character’s individuality and circumstance. There is something very special about the characters in this series and one of the reasons why it is so amazing. This fourth book is Playmaker Quinn Hadley, the lady’s man and Sarah Nelson, sister of teammate Gage, from “Gauging the Player”. After breaking up with her boyfriend and leaving her job in Seattle, Sarah moved to Colorado to live with her brother until she found a new job and home. Gage and Lily are in contract to buy a larger house, but they are making the small space work for them all and her dog. Sarah fits right in with Lily and even Paige and she joins them when they go out. She concluded that Quinn Hadley was just like her ex-boyfriend, a player, after witnessing his playing ways off the ice with the puck bunnies. She did not hide her displeasure when she met him. Quinn is taking care of his mother, giving up his condo to move into a bigger space to accommodate her and have enough space to entertain his women and one-night stands. When Gage stopped by Quinn’s house, Sarah and her dog, Archer, tagged along, but stayed outside. And even from outside, Archer sensed something was going on with Quinn’s mom and let her know. His mom also picked up on the tension between her son and Sarah, which gave her an idea. Since Quinn was looking to bring someone in to help with her, she suggested Quinn, but Quinn does not have experience in caregiving. Then Covid happens, and the pandemic, life as they knew it is no more and everything shuts down, including hockey. Gage’s house sale falls through and Sarah’s chance of getting a job in her field and a place to live is not happening anytime soon. With Gage’s daughter allergic to her dog and the tight living arrangement, Sarah takes Quinn up on his job offer to take care of his mom. It was great to watch Sarah and Quinn’s icy relationship thaw and morph into a more friendly territory and then more. And just as the going gets good, Quinn’s player past comes back to haunt him and weird things happen. Sarah’s ex-boyfriend is trying to come back into the picture, but she wants nothing to do with him. There is never a dull moment in this book, the writing and plotting is fantastic, as are the world building and character development. The drama is non-stop, it is angsty at times, emotions run high, and there are some thrilling and suspenseful moments. The romance between Quinn and Sarah is slow burn, but so worth the wait. G.K. Brady, thank you for another fantastic story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Samantha Brentmoor and Marcio Catalano did an amazing job bringing these characters and their story to life. They understood the characters they portrayed and gave each character a voice that fit their persona and was believable in every role they played. Brentmoor nailed it as Sarah, grasping every aspect of her personality, and Catalano did the same for Quinn and was just as amazing. Both were fantastic in covering the secondary characters’ roles too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artists and enjoyable to listen to. Thank you for another wonderful listen.
