Özet
Bertie Gregory has been making astonishing wildlife films for more than fifteen years. In that time he’s seen the natural world at its most spectacular. But everywhere he went he heard the same thing from resident experts: you think this is good? You should have been here twenty or thirty years ago. There was so much more to see back then.

It’s true – nature is in trouble. It’s no secret that on land, in water and in the air so many species are under threat. For many of us, it feels hopeless. Gregory has felt the same way many times. He’s witnessed some of the worst things that humans have done to wildlife from slaughter for profit and killing for fun to destruction of precious habitats out of pure stupidity. But he’s also experienced nature’s amazing ability to bounce back, something too often missing from the conversation about the climate: hope.

In The Wild is Waiting, Gregory takes us along on his adventures to see the natural world through more hopeful eyes. We meet a farmer in South America who no longer kills the pumas that steal his sheep, but breeds dogs that live among the flock and keep the predators away. We visit a marine reserve in Indonesia where, twenty years after dynamite fishing was banned, the coral, fish and communities have started to thrive again. We visit a remote corner of the Colombian jungle where Bertie and the team discover cave paintings thousands of years old, some of the earliest evidence of humans in all of South America. The walls are covered with images of turtles and jaguars, capybaras and human handprints. This powerful picture exemplifies our connection with nature that modern life has left behind – but it’s not too late.

At the very heart of this book is a simple invitation to readers. To fall in love with nature, to open our eyes to the damage that’s being done, and to feel inspired and equipped to see our corner of the world thrive again.
