Özet

Jane Feather, New York Times best-selling author, takes listeners back in time to King Henry VIII’s court in The Widow’s Kiss. With over four million copies of her novels in print, she is an accomplished author of historical romances.

Lady Guinevere Mallory has been married four times in 12 years, and each of her husbands has died mysteriously. Adept in the laws of property, she has secured the land of each of her late spouses, vastly increasing her personal wealth. After the death of her fourth husband, this trend raises some eyebrows at the royal court, and Hugh of Beaucaire is sent to investigate these puzzling events. When they meet, passion envelops them both, but he is forced to wonder, will he be the next victim of this bewitching beauty?

Jane Feather has also written The Least Likely Bride. Jenny Sterlin’s seductive narration will have listeners ensnared in this tantalizing web of passion and deception.

A new storyline. I have listened to a lot of romance and after a time it feels like everytime you listen to a book it's something you have heard before. It was nice and surprising to listen to an original idea for a change. A bit too long though, I fell asleep and missed a huge chunk but it was like I didn't miss a lot. I loved the character of the widow and the relationship she had with her daughters. And the little girl was a hoot

Excellent narration, fitting for genre and period, well written full of drama and emotion. The MCs are sound and salty, holding their ground and sparing to increase our enjoyment of their circumstance and events. Hugh is just as you would want a hero to be, and Guinevere (name means Queen Eel) is learned and wise, as well as beautiful and experienced. Not overly graphic, but bedroom doorways are crossed.

I really enjoyed the tale, all 16 hrs and 15 mins of it. Every detail colours and infills our expectation. I wan't aware coat hangers were in use in 1540, and some sayings such as "throwing in the towel" seem too modern. Some slight Americanisms creep in in pronunciation and word usage to reveal the origin of the author and narrator. Taverns had oslers to manage equidae for patrons, as no one who knows anything about horses would tether a spirited and expensive "destrier".

My first novel by this author; can't wait to try another one.

MOST ENJOYABLE. RECOMMENDED. Thank you Audible for the freebee.
