Story
Hector was the best of the best. A government operative who could bring armies to a halt and nations to their knees. But when his own country betrayed him, he dropped off the grid and picked up the first of many bottles. Natalie can’t remember much of her life before her family brought her to the US, but she remembers the cages. And getting taken away to the Project with dozens of other young children to become part of their nightmarish experiments. That’s how she ended up with the ghost of a dead secret agent stuck in her head.

At first, Logan Ramsay isn’t sure if anything’s different. He just feels a little sharper. Better able to concentrate. Better at multitasking. Reading a bit faster, memorising better, needing less sleep. But before long, he can’t deny it: something’s happening to his brain. To his body. He’s starting to see the world, and those around him, even those he loves most, in whole new ways. The truth is, Logan’s genome has been hacked. And there’s a reason he’s been targeted for this upgrade.

For Mason Guthrie, a sudden arrest, railroad trial, and quick conviction for the "vandalism" of fixing things around his tenement building come as a shock. For Rosa Fuentes, it's just more confirmation that, to Earth's rulers, they're nothing but commodities to be bought and sold. Together - along with Rosa's disturbingly capable AI - they break out and make their way off Earth to start a new, free life. Unfortunately, the folks they stole a billion credits from along the way would like those back.

Until he dies at 43 and wakes up in his 18-year-old body again...and again in a continuous 25-year cycle, each time starting from scratch at the age of 18 to reclaim lost loves, make a fortune or remedy past mistakes.

When they can’t pay their bills, their stuff gets sold to the highest bidder. That’s when they call me. I’m a Cleaner: a freelance mage employed by the DFZ to sort through the mountains of magical junk people leave behind. It’s not a pretty job, or a safe one....

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

REVIEW FOR 14, by Peter Clines, read by Ray Porter
- By Amazon Customer on 07-06-14
Summary
Penguin presents the audio edition of The Warehouse by Rob Hart.
Gun violence, climate change and unemployment have ravaged the United States beyond recognition.
Amidst the wreckage, an online retail giant named Cloud reigns supreme. Cloud brands itself not just as an online storefront but as a global saviour. Yet, beneath the sunny exterior lurks something far more sinister.
Paxton never thought he’d be working security for the company that ruined his life, much less that he’d be moving into one of their sprawling live-work facilities. But compared to what’s left outside, perhaps Cloud isn’t so bad. Better still, through his work he meets Zinnia, who fills him with hope for their shared future.
Except that Zinnia is not what she seems. And Paxton, with his all-access security credentials, might just be her meal ticket.
As Paxton and Zinnia’s agendas place them on a collision course, they’re about to learn just how far the Cloud will go to make the world a better place.
To beat the system, you have to be inside it.

Totally Absorbing!
Fantastic book that was totally absorbing. A very different post apocalyptic concept and maybe a cautionary tale too!
Excellent narration - great character portrayal and differentiation.
An audible credit well spent - I will certainly be looking out for more from this author.

Engrossing ! Fantastic narration. Plausible!
Look it's pretty obvious which company The Warehouse / Mother Clouds are referring to (clue; you and I are using this company's services as I write/you read and it's not a dying forest). The most disturbing aspect of the story is how plausible it all is - this could be exactly how things pan out for the company concerned and its unfortunate employees (and indeed the rest of humanity). Heck, judging by the many testimonials from employees (I was one once as well), they are well on their way to this future already.
However that aside, the story-telling is excellent and I found it very hard to stop listening when real life had to be attended to. Another thing which I liked was the all too rare thing of have different characters voiced by different narrators rather than one or two narrators putting different voices on!
I particularly loved the juxtaposition of the storytelling from the founder's perspective and what it's actually like 'on the floor' - how dehumanising it all is. Yet the cleverness of the storytelling highlights how reasonable, charismatic people like this can make the most unreasonable and plain wrong viewpoints seem. I suppose this is how cult leaders do what they do so well.
Very definitely recommended.

Hooked
I found this absolutely enthralling and I was hooked throughout. My favourite genres in literature are post apocalyptic, end of the world stuff and I also enjoy dystopian fiction too. This is a really convincing in the not so distant future story that has really strong, likeable characters who the author builds up very well and I felt invested in both protagonists. The relationships and interactions were genuine and believable.
The plot of the story was entirely believable and very entertaining.
This is a story I didn't actually want to end. Not once did I get bored.
The audible narration was very good.

enjoyed this but poor ending
enjoyed hearing about how a global merchandiser works, and the characters are great, but im still not sure what happened at the end.
no surprise about the burgers, but eating the corpses of cows and pigs is utterly disgusting and viciously cruel too and most people think this is normal, so not too sure what the issue is there.
i was expecting something dramatic like cryogenics / immortality and I wont give a spoiler but it wasnt exciting.
story is worth a credit for the journey, pacing and build up, but dropped stars for the damp squib ending,
